Guest guest
Joanne; this boggles the mind, legal, logical and emotional. My parents had a choice; they thought that my mother had finished menopause (at 37?????), but for me it worked out as well as it can for cf, and for them. I did NOT know, as dna testing was not yet available, that my husband was a carrier, but DID make the decision after the birth of our third child, who was born wcf, as was I, to have tubal ligation, also a choice. To me, the difference between the concerns of the parents and the re sultant feelings of the children make two separate legal cases. We are very fotunate; both my child and I (and for that matter, all my relatives wcf are glad to be here, as were those who have gone before us), but to me it seems that the parents, who bare the full responsibility, financial and emotional, have the stronger case--but then I have not been in the precise position of either of those parents, nor of those children. But I do know that I am very glad that you posted this very thought-provoking material. Love to you and thank you, n Rojas
Guest guest
I disagree with the New York Trial Court for allowing the parents case to be heard. Everything in life is a risk, from the moment you wake up in the morning, right on through your sleeping hours. I wish people would grow up and quit trying to place blame, and seek retribution from everyone else for their woes. Perhaps these fertility doctors could not detect a rare deletion for CF in the father, or the donor, and this was not discovered until the child had been diagnosed and genotyped. Even if the deletions were known prior to conception, perhaps the parents should have seen the sign from the almighty, when they could not conceive naturally, to leave well enough alone, and maybe just adopt a child.
