Those are the pictures that stopped me cold. I was set to have the Fobi

-- I had *not* investigated the various types of procedures then. I just

jumped on the bandwagon after I heard Roseanne Barr had the Fobi. Well,

I was actually scheduled to have the Fobi-- with panniculectomy -- on

March 8, and I was already approved by insurance, when I came across

those very pictures on March 1, 2000 which I credit with saving my life,

since it is how I came to thoroughly investigate all the procedures I

could find, including the MGB.

I had actually chosen Fobi precisely because he *would* do a

panniculectomy at the same time as the RNY, and use the low hip-to-hip

incision (I already have a scar there from a hysterectomy so I saw it as

a plus -- no new scar, plus I got a pann out of the deal).

Well, when I saw those pictures, I just started bawling right here at

the computer. No way did I want that.

Yes and no. You do get a hip to hip incision but it is supposed to be

lower and more like a bikini-line smiley-cut, so it doesn't show above

your underpants or bathing suit, but I think it has a lot to do with

surgical expertise (or lack thereof). I saw on the Fobi list that a

*lot* of his patients were complaining about leaking incisions, gaping

wounds, etc. and that also did not sound right to me and indicated some

problems with surgical technique. I've also seen other pictures of

panniculectomies that do *not* look like that, see below, for example.

There are a lot of plastic surgeons who do panniculectomies and their

incisions do *not* look like that -- not that high, not that sloppy,

etc. Check out your surgeon thoroughly ahead of time, that's all I can

say. Trish found one in Durham that looks promising. Website:

Another lady here in the group works for a plastic surgeon in Florida

and she is going to work on seeing if it is possible to get an

arrangement for procedures that may be useful after large weight loss.

I'll keep you posted on developments on that.

I am certain a panniculectomy will be painful -- no way around that.

DITTO!!! Dr. Rutledge is the best and there isn't even any close

competition.
