Guest guest
Dear Wyndie: my daughter is 19 mo old. when we started scd we were in a very similar situation, well, much worse because the problems was not that she would not eat the foods, but that she was allergic to pretty much everything! I also was very ill then with mutliple chemical sensitivities and severe multiple allergies as well. We ate only bananas for about a week before I gained the courage to reintroduce some of the previously allergenic foods. if she eats pureed foods alone, that is fine. as she moves through scd, she will start becoming interested in other things. here are some suggestions: chicken and carrots. boil them and puree as thick as you can. if she drinks form the bottle, try to give her some of the broth, cooled or diluted. cook the meat with the bones or the bones alone, for as long as you can, then, give concentrated and add some raw oils to it. my daughter was very tought to feed as well, i started using as much salt as it was safe to give her and then taper it off. once she developed a taste for broth and meats, she ate pretty much anything i put on her table. you can do this with other veggies and meats as well. she does not have to eat 100 foods for scd to work, your inventory will grow with time and healing. we still have a very restricted diet and are soy, nuts, egg and casein restricted still. but we have gone long ways in the time we have been on scd, which is about 7months now. we considered scd for about 4months before we went for it and is has been incredible for us all. good luck maria mom to fiol 19 mo , all fam on scd > > Avacado? > ----- Original Message ----- > Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fill her up and foods > that puree well enough to pass the " no-texture " test? > Wyndie > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Wyndie, I hear your concerns about wanting/needing to wean your daughter, but I'm hoping you will continue to nurse her. Given the anapylactic allergies your other kids have, and her own food aversions, having something as perfect nutritionally as breastmilk in her diet is very important. Is there any way to get some family or friends to watch the kids for a few hours a day while you rest and drink extra fluids? Doing that and snuggling with your dd a lot should help get your milk production back up. Remember that supply and demand is at work here--if you nurse her more, you will make more! Good luck, Ellen (former pediatric RN) mama to 8.5 year old dd, dx'ed w. Crohn's. 7 1/2 weeks SCD

Guest guest
I agree with Ellen here, Jay almost exclusively nursed until he was 2 , he hardly touched food, had no interest in it, as long as you keep offering the breast, try to reduce stress (not that easy!) and drink plenty of fluids your milk will not run out, fennel tea helps with milk supply as does fenugreek, avoid sage completely as this dries up milk. On the other hand it depends on your state of mind, I was absolutely exhausted nursing him every ten minutes it felt like, so cut yourself some slack too, the cuddling up idea is a great one, sod the cleaning and go lie down.! Just dont forget the good you are doing by nursing, really precious, all the best to you, Josie x > > Hi Wyndie, > > I hear your concerns about wanting/needing to wean your daughter, but I'm hoping you will continue to nurse her. Guest guest
, It's good to hear this. Thank you so much for sharing this. I now have hope! I hadn't thought to give her broth. She does still take a bottle, so if she will go for the taste, it won't be any trouble giving it to her. Why did you start using salt? Just to make it tastier? Thank you again! Guest guest
Ellen, Thank you for your encouragement. Our situation is somewhat difficult. I have been exclusively pumping since 2 days after she was born. She absolutely refused/refuses to nurse. I officially gave up trying at 6 months. LOL My DH is deployed to Germany right now, we have no family near by. My two oldest have ASD and I am alone with it all. If she would bf, I would carry on as long as I could, but since I have to pump, I am losing my milk. I am still amazed I could pump effectively this long! When I began, I was getting over 50 oz a day, now I am down to less than 20. I have used fenugreek/blessed thistle/alfalfa to keep my supply up, but it's no longer working. Due to DH being gone, I had to cut my pumping down from 4 hours a day to 2 and it's just the best I can do. Part of me also thinks she would do better physically if she's not getting my milk. Does that make sense? She has another issue that concerns me (her wrists curl inwards and her fist is clenched often) and between that and the food aversions, I feel it might be best if she's not getting my yeast/metal overload. I have been on nystatin for 7 months but have not done SCD b/c I am afraid of what it would do to her if I went thru massive die-off while bfing. She would be getting so many toxins. Of course, the fact that I'm losing my supply doesn't help. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I appreciate it. Guest guest
Wyndie, You are in a really tough situation. If you are willing to share with us where you are, perhaps someone on the list is nearby and could help you find some source of help. Either perhaps that person could help you or perhaps someone in the state you are in knows of some service agencies who could help. Being all alone is not good. We'll try to help if we can. Guest guest
Wyndie: About the herbs, I believe they are worth trying. look them up well for your specific health needs. For example, people who have asthma should not use fenugreek. The best combo for fenugreek is half the amout of fennel taken together, and stuff like that. I don't know much about herbs but there are some pretty knowledgeable people in the group who can help you with this. About the salt, for taste. she did not love it without the salt, so we started adding it. she now takes it with very little salt because she likes the flavor. good luck maria mom to fiol 19, all fam scd 1/06 (sorry, I always forget to put the scd time) > > Wyndie, > > You are in a really tough situation. > > If you are willing to share with us where you are, perhaps someone on > the list is nearby and could help you find some source of help. > Either perhaps that person could help you or perhaps someone in the > state you are in knows of some service agencies who could help. > > Being all alone is not good. Guest guest
Hi Wyndie: I want to tell you that the decision to do or not the herbs is something to weigh carefully. The benefits and protective effects of breastmilk were enough for me to use them at the most critical times, legal or not. Many of the DAN! docs and moms relate stories of massive regressions and even becoming autistic after discontinuing breastmilk. You see, the Immunoglobulins that you give your baby through the breastmilk cannot ever be matched by any injection you will get later, not to mention the costs, if they ever work, and the many side effects just like a transfusion. I am certain that when Mrs. Elaine mentioned to be fanatical about doing the diet did not mean to be fanatical about. Investigate on your own, find out more information and consider your child's current situation. Do whatever is best for your child. That may be sticking to SCD 100% or adding the herbs, just like many parents use illegal probiotics, etc... Guest guest
My 10 month old loves avacado or egg york. I also give chicken liver and lambs liver in a home made chicken base. I put a few onions in too and boil it for a while on the stove then puree it. I freeze some jars and it keeps well. When I use the liver I mix a bit of papaya or some vegie as well. Papaya helps with digestion. Good luck! Cheers! Guest guest
Sheril, It was my older daughter who had to go to the hospital. She woke up having an anaphylactic attack - don't know what too. She never had one so far removed from food before. But she is doing well - horribly grouchy from the prednisone, but we only have 2 more days of that. Her and her brother's anaphylaxis is the main reason I am considering this diet. I know they will never get beyond it if their little guts don't get healed. Thank you so much for your concern!
