Guest guest
Sue Petit, Are you in Birmingham? Dr. Lyrene was my nephew, Rodney's doctor. would be two years younger and a year younger. That is a great group of doc's and staff there! We are about an hour from Birmingham--in Piedmont. Anniston, Gadsden and Piedmont form a triangle over near the Georgia state line. I have seen your posts before but did not know you were in this area. Good luck with and the boys. Sounds like you realize how lucky you are to have a 16 year old driver that is not crazy on the roads!!! LOL Well, I just wanted to say HI to another local person. Guest guest
Hey Aunt B... Yes, I have sent you e-mails before. I also sent several during the time when Rodney was in the hospital. I remember you and your family. I hope all is well. Thank you for saying hello. The people on this site are awesome. It is like one big family. I know more about some of the people on here than I do about my own family. It was in May of this year when we started going to UAB Childrens. had been going to the CF Clinic in Memphis at LeBonheur. One of our doctors (the one we preferred) was out of town when we went for a visit and he was also very hard to see. We saw his partner. Needless to say, we weren't happy with his summation. He said there wasn't much else they could do for . Well, as I am sure you and everyother Mom would do, I went nuts. Anyway, to make a very long story short, we started looking for another CF Center. We are very thankful to the people at LeBonheur and will certainly miss Dr. Schoumacher. He was wonderful to us always. He is just very much in demand. He had worked at UAB before going to LeBonheur. Well, I had read a lot on here about UAB and thought we would try it. We live on the western side of Tupelo, Mississippi. It takes me three hours to drive to Birmingham, one way. It is well worth the trip. It only took about 1 1/2 hours to get to LeBonheur. The first visit was with Dr. Lyrene. He asked if we'd mind staying. Well, that really impressed me. He said he had lots of tricks he could try. Going from not much else to do to lets see what happens when we do .... He added several meds which seem to have helped tremendously in the weight gain area. He did convince me we needed to do vanc, which I had been resisting because I thought of it as a last resort med. I am not ready for that as I am sure no one ever is. It just didn't fit and her stage of illness, I thought. He and I talked and had just as much input. Oh, this is a short story. Ok, I forgot. Anyway, yes, we go to UAB Children's and love it. We don't actually live in Alabama and have had to learn how to navigate that traffic at " conjunction junction " . It is unreal. I get lost everytime we go. I always end up heading west instead of east. I'll get it one day, maybe. We go Hwy. 78. Actually, Hwy. 78 is about 10 miles from our house. It is usually a very nice trip for us. Val and I go alone and spend lots of quality mother daughter time together during these trips. We have seen Dr. Makris also. We really liked him, too. When Val was in the hospital in May we saw 3 different doctors and 2 different nurse practitioners. We did request not to see interns, residents, etc. That is almost all we saw at LeBonheur and I think we have had enough of retelling everything for a while. Maybe later we will go back to seeing them, but for now we need real doctors. They really do things different at UAB. I am very pleased and so is Val. It is a wonderful hospital for CF kids. Ok, I'll shut up now. Got to get to bed, ballgames tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to say hi. Hope to hear from you again. Sue Pettit mom to (16 wocf) driving and being the most responsible 16 yo I have ever seen, (12 wocf) playing football, band, and whatever else he can get into, and (11 wcf) into all sports, running full speed doing all she can and still doing great---diagnosed at 8 days of age at LeBonheur Childrens Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee, now seeing Doctor Lyrene (and other wonderful folks of course) at UAB Children's Hospital
