Guest guest
We are near DC and we have been told there is some at Wegmans. Do you have these stores near Phila? I'm working on my local Whole Foods store to get the DCCC. They carry the Friendship brand of cottage cheese - I talked with the " cheese guy " at the store and also emailed their cheese dept. online. We'll see if they respond. > > Does anyone on this list know where to get dry curd cottage cheese in the > Philadelphia area? > > Also, for those who can buy Friendship Dairy's Farmer's Cheese, do you know > or have any way of finding out who your store's > distributor/vendor/wholesaler is? Guest guest
Hi , They have the Friendship Dairies Farmer Cheese at Acme. I'm in Montgomery County, right outside Philadelphia and this is where I've been purchasing it. Good luck. Ronnie Where to get DCCC in Phila and elsewhere Does anyone on this list know where to get dry curd cottage cheese in the Philadelphia area? Also, for those who can buy Friendship Dairy's Farmer's Cheese, do you know or have any way of finding out who your store's distributor/vendor/wholesaler is? Whole Foods stopped carrying it in the Philadelphia area because their vendor stopped carrying it, but at least one of the stores is interested in getting it back in if they can find a vendor for it. Guest guest
Ronnie, Which Acme do you go to? I'm also in Montgomery County outside of Philadelphia but my Acme (Horsham) does not have it. , I called Wegman's in Downingtown, PA and they have it! It's a far-western suburb 37 miles away from me. They are building a new Wegman's in Warrington/ south of Doylestown (outer northern suburbs of Phila) that will be much closer to me and is supposed to open in October, so I won't have far to go for long. Thank you both for your help! mother of Adam At 10:30 AM 7/11/2006, you wrote: >Hi , >They have the Friendship Dairies Farmer Cheese at Acme. Guest guest
I'm in Elkins Park, it's the one in Jenkintown in the same center as the Foxcroft Pavillion, about five minutes from my house. We also have a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I've been in the Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Jenkintown (both of which don't have DCCC), but not the Jenkintown Acme. mother of Adam > Re: Where to get DCCC in Phila and elsewhere > >Ronnie, > >Which Acme do you go to? Guest guest
Hi Ronnie, I'm in Delaware County, outside of Philly, and I'm also looking for the DCCC. My local Acme doesn't have it, which one do you go to in Montgomery County? Guest guest
Yes, it's in the same area as the Fox Pavillion. Whole Foods did have it a few months back but discontinued it. Do you know where I can find sugar-free bacon around here??? I would love to find some. Re: Where to get DCCC in Phila and elsewhere > >Ronnie, > >Which Acme do you go to? Guest guest
I go to the one on Old York Road in Jenkintown, located off of the Fox Pavillion. They have plenty. I have to tell you though, it's so wet, the Friendship Dairies style. It's nothing like the DCCC that my mother purchased when we were small. I remember it being these big DRY bolders wrapped in wax paper. This is very moist and I still question if it is what I'm really looking for. Guest guest
Heyla, folks... Getting DCCC can be very not easy -- I didn't have it and used dripped yogurt for the first four years I was on SCD. Whole Foods, at least here in New Orleans, has proved to be very uncooperative on the matter. I was told that they didn't carry it. I was told that they could carry it, but they had a problem with it spoiling before it got to them. I was told their vendor no longer carried it, even though they had other Friendship products in the store. Hurricane Katrina actually did me a favor! ALL the Whole Foods stores and the Farmer's Markets were closed for around 4-5 months after the August Witch went through. So, to patronize our local famers, many of whom also had severe damage to their property, Harry (my husband) and I started driving once a week to Covington, across Lake Pontchartrain. In Covington, I discovered there was a FRESH MARKET (www.freshmarket.com), which we had visited in Birmingham, AL while we were in exile. The Fresh Market had grind-your-own peanut butter which I tolerate very well, although it might be somewhat coarse for some tummies. AND the Fresh Market had DCCC in one pound packs. This was a godsend for me, because I had no time to make yogurt after we got back, so couldn't make all sorts of things which called for DCCC. Whole Foods eventually got themselves open, and, lo and behold, had a couple packets of 7 oz DCCC. Well, I'd certainly rather hit a store that's across the street from where I work than drive a 100 miles round trip on the weekends. So, next week, I went back to get some more. They didn't have it. I got the pre-Katrina run-around. Oh, and they'd have to have the UPC codes before they MIGHT be able to order it. I reached in my pocket and pulled out the labels with UPC codes for both the one pound and the seven ounce packages. They hemmed and they hawed. I asked to speak to the cheese department manager. He came. I told him that I was not happy that they couldn't get this product for me. He started in with Katrina-this... I held up my hand, and said, " You've been telling me this for the last four years. Katrina has nothing to do with it. And, I find it very interesting that YOU can't get it, but the much smaller Fresh Market in Covington not only can get it, but stocks it regularly, and is happy to order a case for me if I call them a few days in advance. " Cheese manager went in the back and returned with (surprise!) a case of the 7 oz packages of DCCC. So, if Whole Food gives you a run around... keep after them. Whole Foods has many fine products and many great people, but I think that, at least here, where they have had little or no competition in the organic and health food line, they have become a trifle, shall we say, arrogant about what they provide their customers. If anyone needs the UPC code numbers, I have them for both size packages. -- Marilyn (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) PS: Whole Foods has the same kind of grinder for nut butters that Fresh Market does. I was unimpressed because the nut butter I got from them was rancid. I emailed them about it after I got sick from it, and they never did me the courtesy of replying.
