Ellen,

Shipping on probiotics is high during the summer because they have to

be kept cold in order to keep them alive. So, summer shipments have

to be sent in styrofoam with ice packs. Unfortunately, that is pretty

expensive.

As for other brands, are you wanting to use dairy free probiotics or

does that matter?

acidophilus brands?

What exactly is one to look for in acidophilus brands? I am unable to locate

the SCDophilus from GI Prohealth anywhere but on their website, and the shipping

is prohibitively expensive. Are there any commonly-found brands that are

acceptable?

Thank you!

Dairy is fine. I just really need to find a legal acidophilus that I

can buy locally. I have asked my favorite health food store to order

any of the three listed on Pecanbread, and they said they can't get

any of them cheaper than just me ordering myself.

Thanks for the help, Jody/anyone else!

I just got iFlora Acidophilus Formula from a Lyme doctor, which is she

assured me is SCD-compliant and she thinks it's the best probiotic. (I'm

taking it because I'm on antibiotics for Lyme.) It's from sedonalabs.com

but you have to buy it from a reseller. I notice it's $22.46 for 60

capsules from

http://www.affordable-natural-supplements.com/sedona_labs.html whereas I

paid $25 for it at the doctor's office (but there was no tax or shipping

added to that).

Hi ,

Sorry but this probiotic is SCD illegal. According to the website it

contains rice starch and a number of illegal strains of bactareia

(including bifidum bacteria).

From the link you posted:

" Product description:

Ingredients: Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium breve,

Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium

longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus brevis,

Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus

gasseri, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus plantarum,

Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactococcus

lactis, Streptococcus thermophilus

Other ingredients: Rice starch "

There are some legal probiotics listed at

Oh dear. Thank you for pointing that out. I will still take it since it

has been specifically prescribed by my doctor to replace all bacteria being

wiped out by the antibiotic, but will henceforth not recommend it to anyone

on the SCD diet.

You are going to have to check so-called " SCD compliant " products from this

doctor carefully. I looked on the Sedona Labs web site and all of the

probiotic products they had contained Bifidus (Bifido) -- which is not

legal.

I'm sure your doctor made an honest mistake, or perhaps she isn't yet as

familiar with SCD as she will be with you to help her along!

You're right, it seems that her understanding of SCD is relatively

casual/superficial. I was surprised and disappointed because she didn't ask

what the diet was--she seemed to know. Since the Lyme diet avoids a lot of the

same sugars as SCD, perhaps she is thinking they are the same diet and

differences are unimportant. But anyway, since I'm doing SCD primarily for my

ASD son it is not crucial for me to follow SCD strictly. The main issue for me

is Lyme so I will take what is prescribed for Lyme even if it conflicts with

SCD. If it were for my son, I would switch to a SCD-legal probiotic.
