I asked about magnesium stearate and lubricants in general the other

day. here is what I heard back from Kirkman, thorne.

from Kirkman

----

Magnesium Stearate that Kirkman Inc. uses is vegetable grade and sourced

from the sego palm. It is used in very minute, safe levels as a

lubricant to encapsulate some of our products. Plant Cellulose is

derived mainly from pine and can be used as filler/binder used in making

the capsules or are the capsules themselves. L-Leucine is a

synthetically produced amino acid used as a lubricant.

L-Selenomethionine is the elemental form of Selenium used in the product

MP 071/100. I was unable to find what hydroxyporyl methylcellulose was

derived from. Since we don't use that ingredient in any of our products

I went to GOOGLE but was unable to obtain what it is sourced from so I

am unable to discern if it is different from magnesium stearate or not.

If you are comparing products call the manufacturer and ask what it is

derived from and then compare the ingredient to ours.

Individuals and allergies are very diverse. We do our very best to

ensure that our hypoallergenic line has the finest available ingredients

and that they do not contain the common allergens. That being said, it

is possible that some people will be sensitive/allergic to some

ingredients no matter what. As an allergy sufferer I know how difficult

it can be to pinpoint. I have heard of people being sensitive to

magnesium stearate and if you have a sensitivity to pine trees it is

possible to then be sensitive to our capsules, depending on the

individual's sensitivity. Silicon Dioxide is highly purified, ground

sand. We do not usually have people that are sensitive to our

hypoallergenic line.

modalities to determine what is causing the reaction.

Thank you!

Here is a synopsis of the lubricants Kirkman uses. I really don't

think these are causing the issue, but here are my opinions based on 40

years of experience. It is not possible to product product without

using some type of lubricant to prevent sticking and abrasion on the

equipment. Kirkman tries to use lubricants that have proven to be the

least reactive.

Unless someone is sensitive to pine tree wood, the cellulose of plant

cellulose won't cause a problem. I have only heard of one reaction in

40 years.

I have never heard of a reaction to silicon dioxide. Basically it is

ground up sand but highly purified.

L Leucine is an amino acid present in proteins. It would not cause an

issue for anyone.

Selenomethionine is the source of selenium in the selenium capsule. I

have never heard of a reaction to it.

Magnesium Stearate is used in minute quantities and is sourced from palm

trees. I have heard of individuals not being able to tolerate it, but

that is rare.

from Thorne- response to second email. at first they emailed back and

refused to answer at all. wonder if they don't like questions. anyone

have any experience with thorne?

No, none of our products contain magnesium stearate. That is one thing

we do pride our company on is that we do not use that in our products.

The supplement facts book goes over that as well with some interesting

pictures of what the spearate does.

Thank you
