Hi Beth,

Didn't know you had abdominal surgery. You're lucky you didn't have

adhesions!

Hi Robin!

Welcome. I can really relate to your search for a less invasive

surgery. Nine years ago I had abdominal surgery and ten days ago I

had the MGB. Between the two, there is NO comparison as far as

recovery time, levels of pain, mobility afterwards and ease of

resuming your life.

I too live in Florida (Orlando), and I gladly self paid and traveled

hundreds of miles to take advantage of the benefits of the MGB over a

local open procedure.

Best of luck in your research and if I can help you in anyway please

write me at TooEnable(at)AOL.com.

Warmly,

Beth in Florida

I had gallbladder surgery 15 years ago and am worried about adhesions. I've

been reading the list and know someone's surgery took longer because of the

adhesions and scars. But I fugure that no matter what, it cannot be as bad as

the original gallbladder surgery.

Hi Robin! Welcome! It's great to have another scrapper on the list.

V, Trish and I all do scrapbooking. We're all post op now, and mostly chat

on the post op list.

You'll enjoy this group. It's a great bunch of people! If you have any

questions, ask away. You'll get the answers you need!

Blessings,

Hi everyone! I joined this list last night, and you seem pretty active, so

I'll just jump in and introduce myself...

My name is Robin, I live in southwest Florida, am 26 yrs old, married with

two boys, ages 1 & 4. In my 'spare time' I sing, scrapbook, and enjoy my

family.

A few years ago I researched gastric bypass surgery and even visited a

surgeon and was approved by my insurance company.... in the time it took me

to start saving for the $1000 I had to come up with to get the surgery

scheduled, I chickened out. It just seemed too invasive for me.

I started thinking about it again lately, and in my search on the web I

found

you all! Now, I've had laproscopic surgery before (had my gallbladder

removed a few years ago), so this seems do-able now! I'm excited about it,

the prospect of being thin and getting more out of life, seems like a dream.

So I guess what I need to do now is first visit my doctor and let him know

what I'd like to do, then I'll fill out the online form and wait to see what

my insurance company says. I have different insurance now, so I'm not sure

what they'll say.

OH, I am 5'8 " and weigh 250lbs... I looked up what my BMI would be, and I

think it said 38.something.... :::sigh:::

Anyway, thanx for reading all that! Hope to get to know you all!

~Robin

I used to be a CM consultant, about a year ago or so.... I am way behind,

also.... I had maybe 10 pages done in my youngest son's book, but then left

it sit somewhere it shouldn't have been sitting and it got water on it and

mildewed the pages. :oT Now I get to start all over again! Good thing the

pictures weren't mildewed!

So, this scrapbooking must be something, huh? My daughter in Asheville got

herself started somehow by doing computer scrapbooking after she got a

digital camera. She worked so hard at getting me interested. But she went

on and is now a Creative Memories consultant herself. I love her workshops

and classes. But right now I am so consumed with this e-mail group and the

MGB crowd that I don't want to give any time to it.. Good luck to all of

you.

Thanks for the hugs marg. I really need them right now. I have heard

from some of the other members that PHP won't cover the surgery. That is

the insurance that I have. Very depressing. Do you know of another

route I could take. I am very determined. Any suggestions would be

appreciated. Thanks! Hugs back to ya!

Robin,

I don't know what to do I am still having the same thing also. I read on here

somewhere u can get a loan for the surgery. I am going to have to put some of

it on credit cards and who knows what else. I am determined to have this

surgery also. Maybe someone out there knows what else to do. hugs marg

Hi Robin

Welcome to the group, I am new also, but everyone here is sooo supportive

that it feels like being apart of a big family. I don't post often, just

" lurk " and vent about my insurance every once in a while.

Where in SW Florida are you? I live in Miami.

Best Wishes,

I'm in Naples, actually.... lived here for 22 years now. Has your insurance

been giving you a hard time? What's the company? I can just bet my ins.

company is going to give me a bad time... before, we had Principal PPO and

they had approved the open GBP for me a few years ago, but I backed out of

it... now, we have BC/BS of Florida HMO, and I am not looking forward to

dealing with them on this. But we'll see!

Hi Robin,

I have United Healthcare HMO of Florida, however, I just accepted a new job

with new insurance, Aetna. And of course I chose the PPO with out of network

benefits I look forward to a yes from them.
