Yall convinced me to finally give up Diet Coke cold turkey! Randy the Rainman > > <<(just how bad IS diet coke by the way?)...>> > > Whoa! SIX glasses per day?? As Carol pointed out, WAY more than Elaine recommeded. I suspect you're hooked on the caffeine, as well as just the habit of it, eh? > > Beyond SCD, I would discourage ANYbody from drinking soda period... but especially not diet soda containing Nutrasweet (aspartame)! Aspartame, like MSG, is what's known as an " excitotoxin " .... really bad for the brain. > > Do a quickie Google.com search on " dangers of Nutrasweet " or " excitotoxins " and you'll get a few hours worth of reading that will raise your eyebrows! > > I know there are differing opinions on the subject, but I have a friend who used to be hooked on diet Pepsi, until she had two major seizures about ten years ago (having never had seizures prior to that). Her doctor told her to avoid Nutrasweet like the plague from then on. She did... and has never had another seizure. > > Patti > >
Guest guest
Randy, You might not want to go cold turkey. The headache you will get very shortly will tell you why. You might just want to drink enough caffeine to stop the headache. If you can handle black tea, that would be a better choice than the coke. Green tea also has some caffeine. It may take a couple of weeks before you no longer have a caffeine headache. Good luck! Sue > > > > <<(just how bad IS diet coke by the way?)...>> > > > > Whoa! SIX glasses per day?? It gave me a real lift, and boosted my energy. When the morning " hit " subsided and I felt at a low point, and then I had the second cup. Lately coffee has gotten some good press about apparent benefits so I justified continuing this " drug " addicted behavior. After some dental work, a nerve in my cheek gave me pain and stiffness and I noticed it flared after the coffee, so I determined to break the habit. I started reducing the proportion of coffee as compared to water and now use 1/4 of a measure of coffee to two cups of water and only once a day. Cut your cola by diluting it with mineral water and reducing it gradually. I had bad die off type symptoms for two days. They're now gone and my teeth are two shades whiter. You could still enjoy a diet cola once a week if you wish. Carol F. Celiac, MCS, Latex Allergy, EMS SCD 6 years
