Hi Janice:

As you can tell, I don't check my emails often, but our two kids (8 year old

daughter and 6 yr old son) are following both SCD and Dr. Yasko's

supplementation protocol.

If you can get your hands on the email from Mimi about making sure your kids

are on the true SCD diet and not the nut diet, I found it very helpful for us.

My kids have not been tested genetically, but they certainly do better with the

earlier forms of SCD (cooked, peeled & deseeded veggies and fruits) and smaller

amounts of meat and nuts. They tolerate fish and white chicken meat better than

red meat. Their favourite veggies include: popcorn cauliflower, broccoli boiled

in salted water, carrot curls, squash chips, steamed spaghetti sqash with honey,

butter & SCD tomato sauce (small amount of sauce only.) Bribe them with their

favourite SCD food item.

For Dr. Yasko's supplementation protocols, I would suggest you read her book

" The Puzzle of Autism " and or order the Boston Conference DVD's + Supplement

VHS. It is expensive and very involved (I grind the supplements up and put into

smoothies loaded with Goat's milk yogurt, Tropicana OJ, honey and frozen berries

& bananas) Our kids get the RNA drops and supplements to help in chelation, as

well as glutathione several times/day.

The thing about Dr. Yasko's position on SCD is based upon incomplete

understanding about the disaccharide malabsorption that this diet addresses so

beautifully. That is why she includes rice, rice flour & products in her

recommended diet endorsements.

Because our kids are strictly on SCD, there are some supplements that she

recommends that we avoid eg. Yucca.

What is central to her protocol is the group of methylated folic acid,

intrinsic/B12 and nucleotides, but these are started later on after establishing

a nutritional groundwork first. Please refer also to the parent discussion

group on the www.autismanswer.com website. Also the article on excitotoxins is

helpful (use search function at bottom of

first webpage.)

If you do switch from the DAN protocol, make sure you keep all the proven

stuff from that protocol, eg. Cod Liver Oil for the eyes, etc. methylated vit

B12, zinc.

The genetic testing may be a good starting step, as well as the SCD intro diet

for kids with autism. We usually have to keep away from the cow's milk products

entirely.

All the best to you, God is good and has been good to us. I know He will

guide you too if you put your trust in Him,

(you can email me privately if you wish)

doing better day by day in this marathon

Hello Friends,

I am considering changing gears from DAN! protocols to Dr. Amy Yasko's

protocols because my older son has gotten a little worse, not better

in the last two years. Is there anybody on this list who has their

child using her protocols and following SCD?

Mom to Billy (3 1/2, autism) and Colby (2 1/2, autism spectrum disorder)

Both SCD since March - a little nut dietish, but trying really hard to

be truly SCD
