Thanks! Tami

travelling back to, but I was glad I had a week under my belt before

travelling back to Texas. Not because I was in pain or anything it

was just nice to have more energy to travel. Most importantly, I

wanted to be near Dr. R in case something went wrong.

My energy level was pretty low for the 1st week, although I felt

good. It's possible the over-dosing on Carafate may have caused some

drowsiness (I was taking 8 TBS a day not 8 TSP a day - major DUH!).

Remember to get enough fluids in during the day - that always perked

me back up. If you think your blood pressure is down, try salty

soups like Chicken Noodle - don't eat the noodles or chicken yet,

though.

Can't wait to talk with you today.

Hey, Bern:

We are now back in Flat Rock, near Asheville, about 4 hours away from Durham.

I tried to work it out to stay longer, but childcare, Carlton's work

schedule, and the whole darn thing seemed to conspire otherwise. I'm aware

that it's not optimal, but since Carlton's a MD, I'm resigned to recuperating

here for the remainder of my week.

I'm doing okay today - not back to my full energy level, but okay. I will

heed your advice about the extra salt. I'm salting every cup of soup I eat,

nowadays!

I'm cooking up a big pot of chicken soup this afternoon, and I'll divide it

up, so that I get broth only and my family gets the good stuff. I'll also

try a tomato soup recipe that I love, maybe thickening it with yogurt instead

of milk.

Does Carafate cause drowsiness? I really do feel as though I could snooze

through the day, these past couple of days.

I'll check in later.

xoxo

Melody,

I am just as frustrated as you are. In fact I am in tears. I am sooo upset

that the no over 350 rule has come about. I have a lot to lose and it will

be Christmas before I ever get there. All I can say is try to diet the best

way you can. I myself am getting a little burned out. I need some sort of

relief. I wish I had a better answer for you. Keep me posted

Lara,

I agree with Judith, you have already worked so hard, please don't give

up!!! I went to 's site and read your story and it was so heart

breaking, but uplifting at your courage and determination. Please keep it up.

I've been on this site on this journey since march and it looks like my

Insurance is not going to pay ( is checking it for me) so I've got to do

some saving and it may be a while before I can have the MGB done so lets wait

together, you work on your diet and I'll work on saving my pennies and who

knows maybe we'll get to have it done around the same time. I'm rooting for

you from the bottom of my heart!!!!

Diet to 350 -- it will be the last one you ever have to do, the pounds

will never be back and it will DEFINITELY be worth it to have the MGB

and not one of the other procedures.

Study the statistics, how long you will be under anesthetic, the weight

loss after surgery, the complication rates, the recovery time, the

overall satisfaction with eating after surgery -- talk to patients --

after you do all that, maybe it will help get you geared up for " one

last diet. " Sigh.

And so what if it takes a little while? You'll already be losing

weight, so if you lose weight while waiting for surgery, you've gained

ground, not lost it.

Lara Akin (LaraAkin033100@...) is doing that. Maybe if you talk to

her the two of you could diet together. I always found dieting with a

friend to be a big help.

You are so capable and the way you have attacked this interim weight loss is

nothing short of amazing. I wish I had an easy answer. But there is one

thing I know for sure: sooner or later (I hope, for you it's sooner) you're

going to have wls surgery. I just know from the tenor of your posts that

you're a woman with a 'mission' and you won't stop until you achieve the

goal. Everyone here is cheering for you.

Thanks Judith,

I appreciate all the concern. This has been the hardest thing I have ever

done in my life. I need all those prayers to keep coming. I do not know how

much weight but I got another inch off I am now at 45. When I measured

before clinic it was 52 so I have lost 7 whopping inches. Thanks for

writing. I will keep you all informed on my progress.

Thanks Cathy... I do not have to tell all of you how hard and frustrating

this is. I started walking today. It hurt like hell but I kept going until

I could barely breath. Then I came home took a diuretic and drank 8 glasses

of water with lemon in it. I am trying very hard. Please continue to pray

for me.

You truly are wonderful for saying all those things. I would LOVE for all of

those that have been there for me to come and cheer me on as I get the

opportunity to do the dance. I am going to stick to this if it kills me and

lately it has been very very hard. Thanks for the hug I really needed it. I

have prayed every night for Gods mercy and to let this happen for me. We

just got home from church and I was so overcome by the spirit that I was

crying and begging God to give me the self-constraint to put down that damn

cheeseburger. Keep the prayers coming. I wonder if we all could pray the

fat away? Wouldn't that be nice??

Lara you are not alone. Saturday I was 381. I have all my stuf and am sending

i my packet to Dr. R. Tomorrow. I am taking vitamins and on a liquid diet. In

4 days I have lost 10 lbs. I have 20 more to go. I am so upset I don't know

what to do. I had dreams and visions of getting this done the first week of

september.

I have thought about this for a long time, and procratinated. I am petrified

of pain or any of the open procedures. Dr. R's procedure was likean answer to

a prayer. It takes hard work, But I know it wont be easy afterwards either,

so I guess this is a test, and I am determined to pass it, You will

too!!!!!!! Keep up the good work.

Please be careful of diuretics, they can mess up you potassium and lead to

heart irregularities.

Lara and Melody,

I don't post often, I do read most of the daily post though. I have

been reading your post Lara for quite some time now. I have been

really moved by your determination to have the MGB. I will not and

can not say I know how you feel on this subject. I am not there.

This post really says alot, please don't give up. If it takes you

till Christmas, at least you will be there. What better Christmas

present could you give yourself!! I learned a couple things in a

twelve step program that I try to apply when things are really

tough. One day at a time - you can do anything for a 24 hour period,

that you could not do the rest of your life. I have been known to

break that into smaller time fragments if the need arises, i.e.,

twelve hours, one hour, 1/2 hour, etc. The other slogan is; This too

shall pass. Remember this won't be for the rest of your life. The

twelve step program has helped me alot in the way I look at things.

If you want to call me, please feel free to do so. I know when I am

struggling it really helps me to talk to someone that at least

understands part of what I'm going through. That is also part of the

12-step program. I was a member of OA for about 6 years. Although I

did not find lasting physical recovery it did give me the tools to

search for what would work for me. I will always be grateful for the

spiritual and emotional support that OA and other 12-step programs

have given me. I really meant what I said about calling if you need

or want to talk. My work number is , it rings in right

to me, I have voice mail if I am not in my office, my home phone

number is . If I am not there, leave a message with your

phone number and I will call you back.

Reading your post helped me to remember the things I have learned

over the years in the 12-step programs. I need to apply some of

those things to my own life. Waiting for the insurance company to

make up their mind has kind of undone me at times. Thanks for

reminding me that I have tools to help me through the wait. I will

pray for you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!

Oh Lara, Please don't get discouraged! You are a beautiful person inside

and out. ( I saw your picture on 's web site ;o) ) and I truly mean

what I say. You are such an inspiration, I wish I could do something to

help you! I can't give any diet advice, let's face it, I was just under the

limit by 3 pounds! Are you taking any type of diet drugs to help? Or can

you? The only time in my life that weight loss was successful for me was

with drugs! :o) Well weight watchers worked for 80 pounds when I was a

teenager, but as we all know they came back and brought their offspring!!!!!

lol Please, Please hang in there, I can't wait to see the day when you are

posting you are on your way to Durham!! I may even have to make that trip

again just to see you in person! I'm in your cheering section! Give me a L,

Give me a A, Give me a R, .............!

Lara,

I only say what I truly mean! I know you can do it! I really feel your

pain with the cheeseburger! They WERE my favorite staple! But next time one

tempts you mentally and physically put space between the two of you! Like

everybody says its only for a little while, then after you have the surgery

you can stick your tongue out at a cheeseburger. You really will not want

them anymore! I'm still not convinced that Dr. R didn't do some kind of

brain thing on me!!! lol

If you really can't live without the burger have you tried soy burgers and

fat free cheese? I did that on my last trip through weight watchers and

they were really pretty tasty! Keep your chin up and we will all keep

praying and cheering for you!

Hey everyone, my name is April. I have scheduled my surgery for Sept 1st, I

am SOOOOOOOO excited, I can't wait. I was wondering if anyone else had their

surgery scheduled for the same day? I am not able to get my PCP to give the

orders for the blood work and the EKG his excuse is " I have no reason to

order them. " I was wondering if you could have those done the morning of the

surgery?

I have already been to the clinic, I emailed Dr. R and asked him if he would

order the tests and I could just pick them up from his office and have them

done at durham regional but I haven't heard back yet.

Thanks for the support I wish you all the luck in the world and I hope

Hi April, Congatulations on your surgery date! I will be at clinic on

the 29th and scheduled for surgery on the 30th so at least we are

same week littermates. I don't know if you have already been to

clinic or not, but was thinking since you have until Friday, you

could get Dr. R ro order them on tuesday at the clinic if not before

that. Then you could get them done before surgery for sure. The EKG

only takes minutes, but I don't know how long it takes to get the

results of the blood work back.

I am sure it will all work out, but your PCP sounds a little

unreasonable.

Hi Friends,

I just want to tell you that I will be leaving this list soon and going to

the post-op list, where I hear there are fewer posts. I am spending all my

time on the computer, LOL, and I really MUST start the writing that I have

been promising myself to do for quite a while now!

Please, please, email me privately if you like, and to my littermates and

adopted ones from Chris' date 8/9--please keep in touch often.

As for those waiting to go, I will continue to be a prayer warrior for you.

Do not give up hope!! There is TONS of room on the other side and we are

waiting here with open arms. You guys are the BEST!!

Cathy, the day you get the MGB will be a happy day indeed!! Please keep me

posted.

Warm and toasty regards,

Debbie in IL
