Guest guest
H. influenza is one of the first bugs commonly cultured by people with CF. .... one of the 3 most common, with staphlococcus aureus and pseudomonas a. being the next two most common ones. Yes, people without CF can culture it as well - I (carrier, no CF) once cultured it. From my experience, it often is not treated in CF unless it is thought to be causing a problem. M Need advice on haemophilus influenza > Cody's doc's nurse called a bit ago, and said that Cody grew h. influenza in his last culture, so they want to put him on Duricef for 2 weeks, then check it again--after that he may have to do IV antibiotics. > > Does anyone have experience with this virus/bacteria? ... Guest guest
I think the reason they would want to treat it more aggressively in Cody is because they think it is causing a problem--his PFT's were down a bit last time, and he is coughing a lot. They also don't want to take any chances since we are just getting his nutritional status up. Thanks for that, Kim! I knew it was really common to culture it, but wasn't sure if it could cause any serious problems. Guest guest
, Eilish cultured it over a year ago. All kids get vaccinated against it here, so I was surprised. She was on antibiotics. I cannot remember which ones but it was either Ciproxin, Erythromycin(Rulide) or Augmentin. I know it has to be one of those as they are the only ones she has ever had. Didn't cause her any problems, it was a routine blood that they found it on. Sorry I can't be better help. (Australia) Need advice on haemophilus influenza Cody's doc's nurse called a bit ago, and said that Cody grew h. influenza in his last culture, so they want to put him on Duricef for 2 weeks, then check it again--after that he may have to do IV antibiotics. Does anyone have experience with this virus/bacteria? How bad can it affect the lungs? What exactly is it? I am doing research on the net, and I have found some stuff, but not enough to satisfy me! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
There is a vaccine available against this bug here in the usa, too, but you have to ask for it; it greatly prevents inner-ear infections and menin gitis as well. Good luck, all of you at cfparents and concoll! Love, n, the cf computer monster who really needs a hair cut-- something about beingb around my computer even makes my hair curl more!
