Guest guest
Hi Anita, I can give you a story: I have my 9 year old son on the SCD but without the dairy products, in order to have it 100 % without Gluten and Casein. We have also learned that it is very important for my son to have his daily meals split into 4 times a day in order to have his blood-glucose as steady as possible when his body consumes the simple carbs. Therefore we have also learned to remove foods like Honey and to much concentrated fruit - it gave a much to rapid rise of the blood- glucose that clearly works as a seizure-starter for my son - NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT !(you can find more info. regarding the " High Glycemic foods " to avoid here: www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm ) But now we have marked them as " not legal " regarding seizures. And now we have been on it for @ 6 months with these small adjustments - and it is really great for my son. We are now out of any sort of Meds and have really good seizure-control - the best we have ever had for all these years...and he has great energy and good mood now. And yes we have also tried the keto-diet for a whole year with no real success, in stead of loosing weight and energy ( Regards / Allan (Son w/ epilepsy on the SCD for 6 month.) > > Hi there! > My name is Anita and I've just started my two year old son on the SCD > diet. Guest guest
Hi, Anita. We have had excellent success with SCD and seizure management. You can read about our success over the last 2 years at messages 53948 and 25957 at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/messages. Feel free to e-mail off list, as well. But briefly, Dakota is down to few seizures a week (mostly absent, simple partial, and a few myoclonic). His responses to therapies has been amazing since SCD. Far less sensory issues. Far fewer illnesses. Far fewer seizures. Those murky unknown times (something going on but not sure what) are a thing of the past. Although our doctors are not completely singing the praises of SCD (like they should be! :-) ), they always say, " keep doing whatever you are doing because he looks great! " No more skinny legs, pot-belly, pale, smelly little boy. He is happy, healthy, attentive despite dealing with a host of issues. I credit the success to SCD. The one thing that I should mention is that Dakota's grand mals did respond fairly well (down to several a month) to seizure meds. It was all of the other seizures that did not, and they are being helped by SCD. I hope you and your son find similar successes with SCD. SCD 2 years Mom to Dakota (8--NF, CDD, seizures) and (6--happy and healthy)
Guest guest
Hi Allan Thanks for taking the time to respond to my email. How did you work out the connection between your son's siezures and the 'illegal' foods? I'll certainly check out that link. There's always so much research to do! How quickly did you see a positive reaction to the diet? I'm really pleased SCD is working for you. You did really well to stay on the keto diet for a year! I'm afraid we didn't make it that long! Part of me was slightly relieved when it didn't work simply because Jack was soooo miserable on it and it was so difficult getting the calogen down him! I just hope we'll have success with the SCD. Here's hoping! Thanks again Anita Allan wrote: Hi Anita, I can give you a story: I have my 9 year old son on the SCD but without the dairy products, in order to have it 100 % without Gluten and Casein.
