Hi Jeanne,

Congrats on the surgery! Everyone is different in regards to gas post-op. I

had very little, lasting only a couple days--others have said it's lasted

several days. I hope yours goes away PRONTO! How are you feeling otherwise?

You just had a *major* gastric surgery and your intestines have been

rearranged, with 6 feet bypassed. The part of your intestine processing

foods now is not accustomed to being the place that food from the

stomach enters.

Hi Guys,

I keep seeing this " 6 feet " bypassed, but Dr R told me he bypasses 8 feet as

a rule and 6 feet for those who are on the low-weight end. What is your

understanding?

Your abdomen is *swollen* from the surgery. You didn't get fatter! That

will go down in about another week.

The gas from the surgery should be gone by now.

The gas that your body is making (belching and tooting) will be with you

off and on for a couple of months or longer, depending on what you eat.

You can cut down on a lot of it by taking the citrucell and eating

salads when you are off liquids.

You just had a *major* gastric surgery and your intestines have been

rearranged, with 6 feet bypassed. The part of your intestine processing

foods now is not accustomed to being the place that food from the

stomach enters.

Really, this surgery is a miracle. Instead of having agonizing and

debilitating pain for 6 weeks and obstructions and all sorts of other

problems, here we are, MGB post-ops, and our two usual complaints within

a week or two after surgery are gas and not losing enough weight! LOL!

It's great! I am so glad you are doing so well.

Kind regards,

I'd bet it's a case by case evaluation.... depending on height/weight ratio.

I'm 252lbs, but I'm 5'7 " so my BMI is *only* 39.... I'd bet someone who's 252

and only 5' would get the 8', where I might only get the 6'..... that was my

understanding anyhow....

<-----good for useless opinions.. LOL

Robin, I think at 252 and any height you'd get the 6'. I believe the 8' is

for those at the upper weights.
