Guest guest
I checked out this website this evening, and must say that a majority of the posts I read were such a waste! People bickering over what procedure, what surgeon, or to get WLS at all! ugh.... one person had actually posted links to different websites where someone was telling their horror story from getting WLS, and in all of the horror stories, the people had gotten their surgeries like twenty years ago! And their complications had been almost immediate. Anyway, think I'll just stick to familiar waters.... you guys are MUCH more uplifting! ) Robin Wife to Doug Mommy to Tyler, 4 yrs., and Brennan, 1 yr. Guest guest
Hi Robin! I tend to agree about the bickering... but I have used the insurance section extensively. About the person who posted the sites to the horror stories... thats horrible. Unfortunately over 20 years ago WLS did tend to be very dangerous. I know that from watching my mother go through that. She had the old, and extremely dangerous, jejuno-illeo bypass in the 70's, and nearly died from resulting severe malabsorption and anemia. It was then reversed and she is heaver now than then... because her body never healed enough to safely have another surgery. I was afraid to tell her I was having WLS because I knew she would panic because of her experiences. I was wrong... she is excited and very happy. LOL While we were talkling about WLS the other day she said, " If only Dr. _____ would have made a small stomach pouch and only bypassed about 6 feet of intestine (he bypassed all but 3 feet and left the stomach normal sized. UGH!!!!), I'd have done so much better. " I explained to her after that comment that was *exactly* what Dr. R was going to do for me. She's elated. Another thing she remembers was that she was told to eat a lot post-operatively! The surgeon told her, back then, that she was to *ENCOURAGE* dumping to get the best weightloss. YUCKY!!!!!!! I'm so glad that doctors (and we) know better now.
