he said-mom is that playdoh? I told him no and he said, it looks like

playdoh, can we play with it? They had a ball playing with that stuff.

Granted, after a while it does get a little crumbly as it dries, but

for them it was a great playdoh substitute. I am not sure how long it

keeps and I would recommend only doing it over a hard surface floor!

In terms of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, we don't need to worry about what is

in something like playdoh or clay.... UNLESS the child is likely to eat it. I

know some of you moms have to worry about extreme sensitivity to certain

things... especially gluten.... and skin contact, but this is not an SCD issue.

If your child cannot touch gluten, I would simply call the manufacturer and tell

them you need to know exactly what's in it.

BUT they all put their hands in mouth so I never allowed my daughter

to play with it at daycare. I don't have playdough in the house

either. I had the daycare make a rice flour one but that is off

limits now too. So my kids paly extra long at the beach when we go

to florida to make up for this...LOL!

Cheers!

If your kids can do nuts, why not let them mold nut butter (with

something mixed in so it's not so sticky). Then they can have fun

eating their creations.

Also a queston: is Bentonite Clay allowed? I thought that I read it

was. If it is, does that make all natural clay OK? If not, does

bentonite come in a moldable form?

Just some ideas. I don't want to lead anyone astray if clay is not

allowed.

Although I don't have kids, I have taught kids in day care and

preschool and I know the importance of playdough.

Clay .... bentonite or otherwise.... is not something that is EATEN on SCD. I

don't believe it is officially legal or illegal... it's just not a food, so is

not classified as something to eat. If you're asking if it's " allowed " as a

modeling compound, then I don't see why you couldn't use it.
