Merika,

You asked:

<<So, my first question is, if we avoid eggs, what do we eat in the

beginning diet? I can substitute for it in baked goods, but what

about breakfast?>>

There are some great egg-free recipes on www.pecanbread.com under " Recipes " .

<<And what about the fruits and veggies I'm allergic to? Do I eat them

anyway?>>

We are to avoid any food that causes an anaphylactic reaction. Other than that,

it's up to you. If you get minor reactions to some foods, you may want to avoid

them until some gut healing has taken place... then " test " them later to see how

you feel.

<<Also, I react very poorly to yoghurt and acidophilus. How do I start

that? It's not the dairy. I even tried acidophilus tablets for 3

days, and have never felt so awful and literally close to death as I

did then....(shiver).>>

I suspect that may have been due to bacterial " die-off " which can be triggered

by probiotics. This *should* be temporary. It is really important to

re-establish beneficial bacteria in the gut.... to take up the space once

occupied by the " bad guys " who've been digging in and damaging your gut for so

long. But only you can decide if and when to begin yogurt or acidophilus supps.

The yogurt does have tremendous healing qualities that go beyond just supplying

probiotics. Many families here begin with homemade SCD goat milk yogurt.

<<And finally, since I've gotten pregnant, every time I eat chicken I

get cramps and diahrea and nausea.>>

Was it organic chicken? Some regular chicken may have additives... or have been

fed something that disagreed with your system. You might search out some of the

spendier organic, free-range stuff and give it a try. Of course there are

alternatives. You could use turkey... or, how about ostrich? :) Always look

for poultry or meat that is free of added basting solutions, flavor enhancers

and other illegals.

I would caution anyone beginning SCD while pregnant... that you may experience

die-off symtoms... which is quite literally caused by the toxins given off by

bad gut pathogens as they expire. Your system has to deal with those... so you

are DE-TOXING some pretty powerful stuff. Do remember that your BABY then has to

be exposed to those toxins, too. Baths with epsom salts can help with easing

those die-off symptoms.

In your case, you *may* want to consider easing in to SCD.... slowly taking out

any illegal sugars and grain-based starches. Beginning by eliminating raw foods

and grains might be a good idea.... then just easing ever closer to a full-tilt

SCD plan. Make sure you're taking a good prenatal vitamin (with no illegal

starches or sugars added).

Best of luck to you and yours...

Patti

Merika,

Kirkman Labs does make an scd legal prenatal vitamin, so you might want to

consider using theirs. As for easing into the diet, I guess that is what we

technically did. We took our son to a homeopathic doctor about two weeks

before starting scd, and she recommended doing a yeast cleanse diet. I

think that's pretty much a gf/cf diet because he was not to have dairy, but

he could have some grains like rice. So, we took away all of the fluid

milk, flour, and all of that stuff. Probably a week later is when I

stumbled onto scd on the net, and after a week of hard researching we began.

So, it was about two or three weeks after removing some of what he was used

to eating. I think Patty has a good point in that being the way to go for

you considering the healthy of the baby. I hope it goes well for you. I

know that it will be hard. I'll pray for you.

Merika,

One more thing. You asked what to do about breakfast. My son is not doing

eggs. He tested a 2 on the RAST test, so we're avoiding them in hopes that

he will outgrow the allergy. So in the beginning of the diet, I fed him a

cooked fruit of some kind(applesauce, baked apples w/cinamon, baked pears,

ect.), diluted grape juice, and a turkey burger or hamburger. Something

like that. Sometimes he would have cooked carrots, green beans, or just

anything. Just don't think typical breakfast food in the beginning. As you

introduce more foods, you can go back to regular breakfast foods if you

want.

Hi Patti,

Thanks for your thoughts.

Wow, ok, that is really scary, though I guess it gives me hope. I

will have to ease into this I think, as I don't want that sort of

die-off again, especially while preg.

Yes, it was organic. One from Trader Joe's, one from Whole Foods.

Maybe I can focus on beef more at the beginning?

Hi Meleah,

Thanks for the ideas. My son would hate all of it, lol. This morning

I did feed him 2 scd muffins. I think he may just have to starve a

bit at first. Eventually he will eat, right?

Merika

(and no, we haven't officially begun the diet. I'm still waiting for

morning sickness to go away before embarking on the major cooking

that is scd...)
