Guest guest
Sara, I would go to your doctor and ask them to refer you to someone who make earplug molds. My daughter had them made for when she had tubes in her ears. They are wonderful and keep the water out. My insurance company did cover them because I got it in writing from my doctor. As for preventative, I really don't know. Does he have continual fluid behind his ears? If so, tubes may be in the forecast. Garlic is a natural AB so I don't know if you would want to use it all the time. I think the best preventative is to plug up the ears before going in the water. Charlene ! Charlene, Thank you! Do you think I can use that as a preventive method as well, Garlic and olive oil, beacuse one of his only joys in life is swmming but we have to deal with ear infection once a month. He has only been SCD since July 4h of this year, so I know his immune system has ways to go.....Also anyone one else with any suggestions about preventive ways. He's six with sever Austism. Thanx, Sara > > For ear infections olive oil with crushed garlic. Drop into ear 4x a day. At night cut a garlic clove a little larger than the ear canal, place in tissue and lay in bad ear. Let the child fall asleep with this in. If it falls out during the night, oh well. It works wonders if you can catch the infection quick. > > Charlene > UC 8 years > SCD almost 6 years > > > Does anyone know what to use for pain. Guest guest
If you don't already use one, I'd highly recommend a good quality fish oil supplement. My 3 yr. old was sick from 7 mths. until two months before his 3rd birthday. The illnesses would come around every 4 to 6 weeks. He hasn't had even a niffle once I started giving him a fish oil supplement, and the cold that he had when I started the supplement went away in two days. Nortic Naturals makes a good products as does Kirkman. Meleah scd 3 mth. iel 3yrs., asd Ethan 5 yrs., Mark 1yr., both healthy Re: Ear infection, Pain meds! > Charlene, > > Thank you! Guest guest
I will agree with that some sort of food intolerance could be the cause. I know a family in which the son has the ear problems in relation to tomatos. He is a perfectly healthy child, and traditional allergy testing did not show any problems with tomatos. It took a cyropractor to do a special muscle testing thing to figure it out. Meleah Re: Ear infection, Pain meds! > For my son, we had to stop all dairy (except breastmilk). Guest guest
I have used that one, and my " dan " doctor was OK with it. I will give you a trip. I was giving iel the recommended dose on the bottle of 1/2 tsp. She had me up it to 1 tsp, and then watch. She said that he could go up to as much as 2 tsp. I would know if he was consuming too much because his stools would be a little oily. She knew he needed more because he had little bumps(like chicken or goose flesh) on the backs of his upper arms. I have also read that if you have dry skin, dry hair, ect. that you probably need to up the amount of fish oil. So while I'm not a doctor, I'm just saying that you shouldn't be worried about increasing the dosage for your son. We didn't start out using Kirkman's cod liver oil. We were using another brand that has more EPA and DHA per serving, and their serving size was 1 tsp. So, you might want to bump it up to 1 tsp., and see if it helps. I hope it does. I am a firm believer in the fish oil now. Meleah Re: Ear infection, Pain meds! > Meleah, > I started Cod liver oil from Kirkman about 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
I started out with a brand from Zone Labs Inc. called Omega RX. The pediatric dietician in our " dan " doctor's office hadn't heard of it, so she's checking it out for me. We also have used Nortic Naturals which is sold by Kirkman, but is also available at our local healthy food store. Definitely check the pecanbread.com list of illegal supplements because not all of the Nortic Naturals fish oils are scd legal.
