Guest guest
Hi I just had surgery last week. Can you please give me some idea of what kind of foods I will be able to eat,say in a month? How much can you eat? Do you still enjoy what you eat? Right now I am eating only two tablespoons at a time and am really wondering about the future. I'm not really hungery but can't wait to have some real food! I could use some info on what it is like for the long run. thanks Kathie265 p.s. How much does the new stomach hold?

You will be *able* to eat anything you want, but you probably will not *want* to eat a lot of things because they will not " sit well " in your stomach. This is a feeling you will not have had before that is unique after this surgery -- some foods just feel like rocks after you eat them and you don't want them anymore, even though they may taste perfectly fine. Some foods don't have the same taste to them, either, so you won't eat them like you used to, either. Some foods may make you " dump, " like sweets or for some people, it's dairy products (but other people don't get dumping at all). You should just try whatever suits your fancy and see how you do with it. Also, at 3 months, it will be a lot different than at 1 month. Things that didn't " sit well " at one month are doing fine for me now and I can eat them. > How much can > you eat? I can eat just about a whole " Smart Ones " dinner, which is about 3 oz. of meet and 3-4 oz. of potatoes. I usually eat about half the potatoes. > Do you still enjoy what you eat? Yes, but in the first 1-2 mos., I did not enjoy eating much of anything at all -- it all had that " rock " sensation and it was very frustrating for me. I didn't realize how much I had relied on food as a comforter before. So this was a very good thing to happen -- it helped to change my outlook about food a lot. Now, at 3.5 mos., I can eat just about anything with no problems, but I'm not dependent on food as a comfort so much as I was, either. > Right now I am eating only > two tablespoons at a time and am really wondering about the future. Well, you are rightly being cautious -- you are in the early stages. Don't sweat it. When you get hungry -- and you *WILL* definitely get hungry and you will feel it like you never felt hunger before -- you'll eat. > I'm not really hungery but can't wait to have some real food!
