Guest guest
Gloria, If your friends are interested in treating Autism biomedically, and finding a doctor that will help do this, I recommend that they check this website: http://www.autismwebsite.com/ari/index.htm At the top, choose " DAN! " Partway down the DAN! page they will find a link for practitioners, that lists DAN! doctors in each state. I know there are Yahoo! groups for Autism, but I have not personally joined any. Although this does not answer the exact question you asked, I personally found this website very helpful: http://www.geocities.com/treat.autism/ It is one Mom's journey with her autistic child, and she explains biomedical intervention in a very understandable and brief way. It seems to me to be a helpful overview for someone new to autism. Hope this helps, Lynn Doctors in Long island NY Hi Everyone, Some friends of us just got their son diagnosed with autism. They are in Long Island NY. We are triyng to help them get plug with a good parent support group and a doctor. Unfortunately we are in CO and aren't familiar with NY. Can any one recommend a experienced doctor? One who is up to date in chelation, HBOT, IVIG, etc. Also is there a support group they could join? At this point we are the only ones they know who have kids with autism. Thanks in advance Gloria
Guest guest
Thanks Lynn, I'm familiar with the website and I actually went there but there are many doctors and I'm not comfortable recommending any since I don't personally know them. Recommending a doctor to another parent is a big responsibility. Thanks again Gloria > > Gloria, > > If your friends are interested in treating Autism biomedically, and finding a doctor that will help do this, I recommend that they check this website: > > http://www.autismwebsite.com/ari/index.htm > > At the top, choose " DAN! Guest guest
Hi Gloria, Well, we'll see if this works. I just joined pecan bread, so I haven't figured out how these groups work. I can recommend Dr. O'Hara in Wilton, CT We live in Charlotte, NC, and have a recently diagnosed 3 yr. old on the spectrum. Our son saw Dr. O'Hara last month, and she was incredibly knowledgable. You can reach her office at , and get a packet sent to you with her bio. She also has a registered pediatric dietician working with her as well as an on staff behavioral therapist. The info packet will also have a 25 page patient evaluation that must be completed before an appointment can be made. I hope that this helps. Guest guest
Hi Gloria, I sent a reply, but don't think that it went through. I am new to the group as well as blind, so it sometimes takes a little playing around to figure out some of this stuff. I can highly recommend Dr. O'Hara for your friend. While not on Long Island, she is in Wilton, CT. That's certainly fairly close for you. We live near Charlotte, NC, and she is worth the distqance for us. You can reach her office at . Her office admin. will send an info packet with Dr. O'Hara's bio, some faqs, and a 25 page patient evaluation that must be completed before an appointment can be made. She also has a registered pediatric dietician and behavioral therapist on staff. Let me know if you'd like any more info. Meleah Corner Mom of iel: 3 yrs. scd for 3 mths. Guest guest
Gloria, I would highly recommend Dr. O'Hara (http://www.drohara.com/) as well. We are in Cary, NC. It was worth the drive for us as well. Guest guest
Pam, Just as an fyi in case you haven't hear, Dr. O'Hara has made her first trip to see patients in Charlotte last month. She hopes to begin making a couple of trips a year to see patients. She used the Cyzener Institute...hope I got the spelling right...in south Charlotte. We were really happy about this, and hopefully it can eliminate long, costly trips to CT. Guest guest
Hi Gloria: I'm late in responding to your post because I've been off the computer for several days and just saw it. I know many have responded, but I have a DAN group to recommend if you're still interested. My son, Clay is 4, with ASD and has been seeing Dr. Marvin Boris for about a year and a half. They're in Plainview, Long Island, which is Nassau County, near the Suffolk border. There is another MD and a great PA in the group too. The staff is nice. They have a web site which I've never looked at but its www. autismny.com. The group is called Autism Associates of New York. Their phone is . They do HBOT on site, and chelation (neither of which I've done, so I can't comment further). They are big on dietary intervention, MB-12 shots, supplements, and many other current therapies (Actos;LDN). They make up a personalized nasal spray for environmental allergies. I still believe the parents need to be on top of the doctor and not just follow blindly what is recommended. As far as support groups go, its not my thing, but I'm sure they can recommend a group. I find this list and another I belong to to be my support groups. If your friends are looking for an ABA program, I can recommend one and I've toured several, so let me know. Good luck to your friend. The good news is the counties are very generous with early intervention services and many of the school districts on Long Island continue that generosity, at least from 3 years to kindergarten. Of course, we pay major taxes here and that's why we have great services...
