We were at the mall today and it's just amazing how once you are

eating healthy you notice how " polluted " our USA diet is. Ice

cream, cinnabons, chocolates everywhere, lollipops decorated with

barbie dolls... my daughter noticed everything but thankfully did

not request anything... but my son, not SCD, begged for " dessert " .

He didn't get any!

Mandy,

I would take these out-of-character requests as not really coming from your

son.... but coming from the bad gut pathogens that are getting pretty desperate

right now! They are sending him signals to " FIND FOOD " ... and they want THEIR

kind of food. They want to survive at all costs... so donuts are starting to

look pretty good to them!

Stay strong!

Grocery store meltdown! 5th day on SCD

I took my boys to the store today and got quite a shock. My 5 yr old

has been on SCD for 5 days now and after a 2 days of die off in the

beginning has been doing well on the diet but today-oh my gosh! I

never buy junk food ie, pasteries, pop tarts, donuts at the store and

he was asking for anything he saw. He threw a fit because I would not

buy him donuts.. DONUTS?! I don't know when the last time was he had a

donut. It has certainly been over a year ago maybe longer. He never

asks for this stuff but today was crazy! Is this just part of the

indication that he was a total carb junkie on the GFCF? Has anyone

else had this problem? He keeps telling me he misses his old diet-no

way I am going back to it, but I am just surprised by him. I have

started the yogurt and I am happy that he is able to take it right

away without any problems so far. I would appreciate tips for getting

through this part. How long does this last??

That is exactly how I am taking it. It was just kind of funny to see

him acting that way. I also took it to mean that the diet is working

and is what he needs. I have put myself on the diet as well and have

been having some 'bad food' thoughts myself :). I do plan on sticking

with this. My inital goal was to get my son to where he could eat

fruits and veggies again-he could not tolerate any before on GFCF, not

even fruit juice! Now he is doing fine with bananas and pears and pear

juice. I plan to try carrots and apples pretty soon. I am just so

excited I am going to be able to feed him healthy foods again. He has

had a little regression. He is back to talking about animals and ONLY

animals but I am hoping this subsides in a few days or weeks. He is

also back to saying 'I don't know' to about every question we ask him,

sigh. But I know it is just part of the healing process. He came so

far on GFCF and I know this diet is better for him so I can't wait to

see where this one takes us!

Mandy asked: How long does this last??

Dear Mandy, I don't know for certain what your experience will be.

BUT for us HORRIFIC CRAVINGS FOR STARCH AND SUGAR Lasted the first

month of the transition to SCDiet! I now compare it to drug

withdrawl and the suggested 28 day rehab! All five of us suffered

from this as well as die off! We had to of been truly addicted.

Talk about carb junkies!

Of course more difficult with our four year old. For the first two

weeks every meal was a melt down! He couldn't understand why he was

wanting the stuff so much! I just LOVED what Patti said because it

was the TRUTH: " FIND FOOD " ... and they want THEIR kind of food.

They want to survive! " But of course we have to starve those gut

bugs! Don't give in to feeding them.

Hang in there! Now my son, and my husband and I don't crave those

things at all. We kinda miss it, but don't crave it now. Plus food

tastes better now that we have made it through that tough

transistion. All of us are getting better so it has been worth all

our good byes!

malabsorption, and more)

I told him before we started the diet that there were bad guys in

there and we were going to get rid of them. I told him it would be

hard but that we would win. Of course that is easier said than done. I

did get him to eat a scrambled egg again this morning yeah!! He ate

one during his die off and it came right back up so he made the

connection-eggs make me sick, ugh. I finally convinced him otherwise

today. I have never seen him craving something so badly. I have always

thought of him as a healthy eater, but I am finding out otherwise-not

his fault, I know. I am just glad this is working and I am so glad my

husband is being supportive-he usually is but teases me calling me the

witch doctor-lol! I don't mind. I am planning on studying natropathic

medicine after the kids get in school. Anyway, I will keep you posted

on our progress and thanks for all the support!

Mandy, It does get better.<SMILE> I didn't take my two with me for

a couple of weeks and by the time I did it was not extreemly hard

but they still wanted some of the old diet items. We have been scd

now for 5 1/2 months and they rarely even look at any of the illegal

foods now. My son is the hardest as if he finds a piece of anything

and I don't see him, he will eat it. The good part of this is that

he doesn't have the volital reaction from that particle of stuff

that he used to. There was a day that 1 M & M would put him into a

rage, now he still gets difficult but is able to keep himself under

control.

Keep up the good work.
