As a peacekeeping gesture, I'll agree to disagree with you. Smoke is smoke, though yes I agree that the particulates in the smoke differ depending on what's being burned. So while incense may not contain tar and nicotene, the smoke itself isn't good for lungs, especially young lungs. Remember, when a building is burning it's smoke inhalation that kills before the flames ever reach you. About candles: I knew metal containing candle wicks were banned because they put lead into the air, which puts people (especially children) at risk for lead toxicicity, but I didn't realize they contained zinc too. Makes sense though that a metal wick contains more than one metal! I haven't seen any metal-containing wicks in a long time. I thought there were now federal regulations against candles wicks with metal centers. Kim
Guest guest
Hi , I just went to the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site -- and get this! The gov't just banned the import and sale of lead wicks in April 2003! What the...? Long before I moved to Chicago in 2001, I heard they were pulling candles with metal wicks off store shelves. There was a news report on one of our local TV stations, and our local Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby pulled candles with metal wicks at that time. Ah, the wheels of government grind on... Here's the CPSC announcement: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls_03/lead_core.html Anyway, according to the announcement, you can still buy zinc wicks and zinc-wicked candles. Wicked? That looks funny. Kim --- Tucker <milanfoundation@y...> wrote: >Hi kim, > >Candle wicks can be purchased with metal centers. I recently bought >some that way by accident.
