Even if you haven't had an attack in a long time, you will always have to live your life a certain way. You will always have to avoid certain foods and alcohol, you will always have to live with the fear of an attack when you least expect it. I couldn't agree with your advice to Robin more! There have been people who have gone for months to years without an attack, but they're not " cured " of pancreatitis. The only " cure " that we know of now is the pancreatectomy with auto-islet transfer, and even that doesn't always have a 100% success rate. Any doctor that believes a diagnosis of pancreatitis can suddenly vanish, and turn into IBS or something else, isn't educated enough in pancreatic issues to be trying to treat the problem. And a PCP, especially, just doesn't have enough training in this specialty to make these judgements. Confusion like this indicates to me that it's time to find a Gastroenterologist, and to make sure that the Gastro specializes in pancreatic disease. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
