Guest guest
Summer, what is the link? It didn't come up on my email. Thanks Pearl Gertrude Snicklegrove wrote: Robbie, Here is a link for quick home-made butter in a food processor. What I do is culture the butter first, with SCD legal culture for 24 hours, to make the butter " cultured " then follow the directions. Very easy to make, hope you enjoy! Summer " Jody G. I've not heard of it being done in a food processor, but you can certainly search online and see if it can be done that way. As for why it's legal. The " butter " is the fat only. Butter is not completely casein free, but you can buy ghee which is clarified butter and is casein free. You can also find directions online for how to turn butter into ghee. Guest guest
Why not make butter by overwhipping in a mixer? Haven't you ever overwhipped cream in a mixer & made butter? Don't know if this is legal since we are just now starting on SCD after being on GFCF diet for 1/1/2 years. And Mom is deciding if my grandchild can have casein now with the SCD diet. Does anyone know if starting on SCD is any easier for a child (austistic) who is converting from a GFCF diet? -------------- Original message -------------- > Robbie, > Here is a link for quick home-made butter in a food processor. Guest guest
Still having trouble making a good amount of goat butter from goat milk, but what I have had my kids do with cow milk, I poured it into an empty plastic gallon honey container, and let them roll it around, back and forth between the boys. Kids need to have more responsibility for food and cooking preparation, so they know how to do it automatically when they are grown up, and stay on a diet like ours easily. lol Summer Grammy Bauer wrote: When I was a girl scout I walked to the picnic that we were going to have with milk from a cow and by the time I got there it was butter... not milk any more. Guest guest
Welcome to the Group suedefend, > Why not make butter by overwhipping in a mixer? Haven't you ever overwhipped cream in a mixer & made butter? Butter is legal on the diet and Elaine said that cultured butter was the best option. > Don't know if this is legal since we are just now starting on SCD after being on GFCF diet for 1/1/2 years. And Mom is deciding if my grandchild can have casein now with the SCD diet. Unless you have made butter before, I wouldn't try right now for your child since you are just starting - you don't want to have to many variables to sort through at the beginning. Later when established on the diet (and past any possible die off symptoms etc.) you could give it a " whirl " . > Does anyone know if starting on SCD is any easier for a child (austistic) who is converting from a GFCF diet? For some it is easier, for others it is tough. It depends on their symptoms, what they were eating on GFCF etc. You have the option of starting the diet as was originally written or continuing to be CF. Either way we recommend starting with the intro diet for 2-5 days to flush out the body and kick start the healing process. The original intro diet is in the book " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " (BTVC) and on the website under the beginners section http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ ; the dairy free intro is at http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro Sheila, SCD 2/01, UC 22yrs mom of and
