Guest guest
He is better off being sedated. I had one and its NOT painful just creepy. You are in this enclosed container - really close - and hear loud banging. I know its no of no comfort but my kids have been sedated for CTs, etc. its amazing how they are out like a light one minute awake the next - like nothing happened. Take deep breaths. It is scary no matter how many times you do it. Just follow all the directions they give you..i.e. not eating, etc. Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 10.6 and 6.6) with CF. Guest guest
, I understand your fear!!! But a MRI is really painless, but they kids have to be completely still for a long time (maybe an hour or so) so that is why they sedate them. If I had to guess I would say that they will give him Chloral Hydrate to sedate him, it is not anesthesia, just a sedative that puts them into a very deep sleep. The chloral is good stuff, they gave it to my Piper when she was in the hospital after her surgery and again when they did her PFT, so rest assured that your will be fine!! Guest guest
Hi , Boy, I know how scary those tests are the first time you go through them. I remember my son's first CT scans and MRI's. He was 7 1/2 the time he got his first CT scan.(And I came this close to decking the CT technician with my lead apron because the tech was an absolute jerk.) The only reason they sedate some children is because these tests depend on lying perfectly still to get a clear image, but the test itself is absolutely painless. It's like getting an x-ray only lying down. A few years ago I had to have a cardiac MRI so they had to use a dye. The dye didn't hurt, though I have whimpy veins and it took several attempts to get the IV going. But don't worry, the MRS isn'tlike having a mammogram. No one is going to squish any body parts. Please let us know how the test turns out. I hope it's all good news. Kim
Guest guest
i have had an MRI and I just had to be still for about 1/2 hour. Guest guest
, My oldest has had many MRI she has a shunt that goes from her brain to her stomach. An MRI is taking many more picture in different angles. It takes usually from and 45 minutes to an hour to do so that is a long time for a young kid to sit still so that is why they sedate them. When has done this they usually give them a liquid that really taste and smell bad but I have never know anyone that has had any problems with it. I am sure there is some percentage that has which is what they tell you with any procedure. I don't know much about any die they have never used that on before but the MRI is nothing to worry about the only thing I hate is when they come out of the sedation they are a real CRAB!!!!! Hope this helps. Deb A
Guest guest
Our town now has a place that has open MRI's. I had to have one and I am very claustrahobic. The open MRI is not enclosed all the way around. Angie (ma to JC, 3yo, wcf) Re: MRI? i have had an MRI and I just had to be still for about 1/2 hour.
