Guest guest
My son just started the SCD yesterday and is having a hard time. He has been very tired today and asking for chips, and chicken nuggets. I feel so guilty, but I know I have to stick with it. Could my son be having " die off " effect already? I offered chicken soup yesterday and today and he refused. He had a couple bites of a hamburger patty to day, but won't eat anything. He did have eggs last night for dinner. I even made grape gelitin shapes and he says " put jelly on bread. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Guest guest
Yes, he could be having some die-off already. But also, carb cravings are very common. Remember, he is basically addicted to them. The bad gut pathogens are sending him the messages to GO GET SUGAR AND GRAIN-BASED CARBS!!! They KNOW they're going to die soon if they don't get what they need to survive, and they are very POWERFUL when it comes to self-preservation. If you can look at it this way... that the cries and the cravings are coming NOT from your son, but from the " bad guys " , you might be able to feel less guilty. If you can find even ONE food that he will accept, just offer it to him numerous times during the day.... just a bite or two at a time. He may be feeling a bit nauseous. Try to keep him hydrated. Grape juice popsicles? Try not to become too anxious and distressed (at least not around him)... that will just add to his own distress. Hang in there... you're doing this for all the right reasons. It represents change. The intro diet is only for a couple of days. Soon he can have SCD Chicken nuggets (delicious) and squah or beet chips. Try to be brave a little longer. The intro diet prepares the digestive system for the SCD. Carol F. SCD 6 years
Guest guest
-- Thank you to everyone who wrote back. It is awsome that we have this technology and we are all able to support each other. I thought of Elaine today ,and how alone she must have felt when she was going through all of this back then and not having all of the resources and support of other moms like we all have today. So again, thank you! My son ate two chicken patties tonight and he seems so happy. I think we are headed in the right direction. Not guilty...you are saving his life and giving him a second chance! The beginning is tough. You are breaking addiction to food, and die off sucks. Congratulations on your choice to do SCD! The first month is the hardest...and then cravings seem to vanish on the most part. So hang in there it will be worth it in the long hall...don't cheat...or give in....this is when you should truly feel guilty! God Bless, Antoinette and family of five SCD (celiac, add, adhd, asd and more) 2/
