Guest guest
, I noticed that you did not do the SCD intro diet. There might be some food that is SCD legal but that your child cannot tolerate. We have had reports from mothers who skipped the intro diet when they started SCD and then much later restarted with the intro diet and the gradual addition of new foods that are tolerated. Many of these mothers reported a dramatic improvement!! has posted many times that many children with autism cannot digest the nuts well. Some cannot digest the nuts in the beginning stages of the diet but can digest them after a few months. Please take out the peanut butter, that is a big trouble maker for many of our kids. I also read that you did not give him any goat yogurt. I am sorry that I have not urged this enough. I hope to add this reminder to our list every month. The SCD goat yogurt really heals your GI system,it doubles or triples the good results that you will get with SCD. It will produce dramatic improvements with neurological and physical issues, Most of the children with autism do very well with the goat yogurt. Some have a bad reaction but for most it is a die off reaction that goes away after a month. The typical bad reaction is a runny nose or irritability. If the parents discontinue the goat yogurt, the bad reactions go away after about 10 days so it is not risky to try it. Please start with very small quantities:1/8 of a teaspoon. Since your son did not have any issues with yogurt in the past, you might increase it faster than others. Mimi
Guest guest
Mimi, Thank you very much for your insights. We just came from an appt. w/ 's neurologist so I thought I'd relay his comments (although recognizing he is not an advocate for the diet). He said he was not concerned with the total calories, fat, protein or carbs. He believes can eat as much as he does because he is so hyperactive that he burns the calories. He also noted that he has gained 3 pounds since his last visit 4 months ago so he is now up to 64 lbs. which he thought was good. His height remains 50 inches. He was impressed that was calm for the visit. Of course, he doesn't follow my bouncing, stimming, squealing, singing boy all day long at home. He also noted that his comprehension and overall compliance have improved although language is still scarce. His OCD behaviors have also increased but he thought not enough to add additional meds. So...back to SCD, I would like to impose upon you all with a few follow up questions. I am willing to tweak the SCDiet as needed in hopes that it will be of help. Clearly, seems to obsess on the need for his chosen foods. I would like to expand his limited choices. I plan to add the goat yogurt. I will be ordering the Yogourmet shortly and will start slowly as you suggest. You also suggested I remove peanut butter. Shall I remove the cashew and almond as well? And the brazil nut milk? Can I do this gradually or must we go cold turkey? Do I need to do intro first (an unbelievably daunting thought) or can I try adding goat yogurt and reducing nuts first? Also, on the way home I took 's advice and picked up Chromium GTF and B1. Thank you so much to those who have taken the time and energy to help me work through this. I appreciate your help very very much. Mom to , 8 ASD, SCD 2+ yrs, and twin sister, , NT >
Guest guest
generally the amounts of these supps in tablet or capsule form are way too much and need to be cut down or in the case of a capsule you open the capsule and just use part b's need balancing with other b's, a cut down even b multi can be quite good value, still more to do on b's though as i have written up in 'other supplements i take' in http://tinyurl.com/2csa3 the most important thing that parents do not want to hear about supps is they need to take them themselves to see the effect and get an idea of dose and timing > Also, on the way home I took 's advice and picked up Chromium > GTF and B1. > >
Guest guest
Hi , > You also suggested I remove peanut butter. Shall I remove the cashew > and almond as well? And the brazil nut milk? Can I do this gradually > or must we go cold turkey? Cashews are problematic for many folks, they are too starchy. Children with autism tolerate the pecans and hazelnuts better than the almonds. For even better results you might eliminate all nuts for a trial period. > > Do I need to do intro first (an unbelievably daunting thought) or > can I try adding goat yogurt and reducing nuts first? You will get the best results if you restart with the intro diet and add foods slowly making sure that he tolerates all the aditional foods. That is the true SCD! However,if this is too difficult you might want to postpone it for later. I am sure that you will get great results with the addition of yogurt and the temporary elimination of nuts and peanut butter. I am glad that 's neurologist saw progress. I hope that you will see even more progress! mimi
