Guest guest
Pretty much any pre-packaged, commercial fruit juice that is " from concentrate " is not SCD legal. So, you need to avoid all juice concentrates. I'll look for info I've saved about this, but until then.... You can read more extensively about that on either www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info or www.pecanbread.com . I believe Elaine explains it in BTVC, too. You WOULD be able to use a legal juice (not from concentrate)... and mix it with sparkling water to make your own special fizzy drinks. Patti Re: Pomegrante Illegal? Guest guest
> > Why? (Starbucks fruit beverage) We have no control over undisclosed ingredients and require a hand written letter from the source of the product. Pleas for approval of store bought juices and syrups have existed here from the beginning. The legal brands have been investigated and approved. There are thousands of other products in the marketplace that include those people would like to use for SCD but should not. The edible parts are the seeds and the brilliant red seed pulp surrounding them. Pomegranates are high in polyphenols. Elaine's website says pomegranate syrup is illegal. Guest guest
You may be right about the bottled Welch's grape juice. I know it is approved as " legal " .... only the bottled, not the frozen... but I never buy it, so honestly didn't keep in mind whether or not it is from concentrate. (My daughter won't drink anything but water, believe it or not.) Anyway, if so, I don't really know why Welch's is okay but other concentrates are not. I know we are to avoid any other product with any " fruit juice concentrate " listed as an ingredient. Here is something I copied from Elaine's website, www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info : << Juice from concentrate is normally illegal because when it is reconstituted they often add other things (like sugar). Often additives are not listed on the label >> And this is from www.pecanbread.com: << There are a number of reasons why homemade items are necessary for SCDT instead of the " convenient " store-bought items. 1.. The 2% rule: There is a rule that allows some ingredients that constitute less than 2% of the total weight or volume unnecessary to report on the ingredient list. This can include sugar and other illegal ingredients, since these do not fall under the list of usual allergens. 2.. Store-bought products often pass through many sets of hands before they are put in the final package. For example, some juice concentrates can be made in one plant and then shipped to another plant where water is added and then they are bottled. The final producer can " honestly " say they did not add any illegals but what about the first producer of the concentrate. The original concentrate does not even have to be made in the same country as the final bottler. 3.. Commercial producers are not bound to report some of the ingredients listed in their foods. They can use processing aides, enzymes etc., that are used in the production of the food but are not technically an ingredient. When you make foods for your children you know " exactly " what you are putting into it. 4.. Buying foods such as cookies that are not listed on this site as suitable SCDT products, can lead to trouble. Some producers may unintentionally use illegal ingredients. For example, a commercial producer uses honey that is not pure (i.e., cut with corn syrup) but includes honey on the ingredient list. The end result is that your child is unknowingly ingesting illegals. 5.. Some companies blatantly lie about the ingredients in their products.>> ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Knudsen " Just Juice " line of commercial juices has been approved as okay (and I think they do have a " Just Pomegranate " ). You could add those to sparkling water. Remember to dilute any juice. Patti Re: Pomegrante Illegal? All juice concentrates?? Doesn't the " approved " welchs juice say it's from concentrate? I need help here. I'm a working mom and don't have time for making my own juices. With a 4 & 2 yr old I need juice options. THanks! We Made Changes Your Yahoo! Groups email is all new.
