Guest guest
There was a novel a while back, " An Inconvenient Woman. " Poor SCD, a wonderful diet that has healed so many and most of them had a real struggle at first. Yes indeed, an " Inconvenient Diet " :-( because while you're waiting at the checkout counter there isn't a single impulse snack you can grab unless there are some mini boxes of raisins or unmixed nuts. if you were GFCF before there were so many quickie munchies loaded with SCD illegals to keep children happy and quiet and even use as ABA rewards. I too was thrilled to find someone in my area bakes treats with the SCD seal of approval and yet I rarely use them right now. One piece of Biscotti (a rusk like cookie treat 2.5 inches long) costs over one dollar. I can never stop at one so swallow $4.00 worth of goodies in a single swipe. Bars__ I thought I located some legal ones and thought I'd try one and see if it could be recommended to our local group. It cost 90¢ at the warehouse outlet, expensive gas miles away and $1.69 at the franchise retailer. Thank goodness I wasn't ordering from the U.S. paying shipping and excise taxes to appease my sweet tooth! One poster here is very enthused about convenience foods and suggests them in almost every message. I tried some and found them stale and tasteless. They had also broken in shipping. I do understand how someone who is Kosher might appreciate the turkey bacon but fortunately I can use legal pork bacon. Maybe you were never much of a cook or baker before. It takes very little effort to have delicious treats on hand especially with a food processor or hand blender or old fashioned electric mixer. Lass, co-author of Grain-Free Gourmet mixed her cookie dough and muffin and cake batters in a bowl with a wooden spoon. Years ago as a young mom I did family style cooking and had guests often. When I retired and got past sixty I pretty well stopped. Since SCD, my confidence at coming up with something to bring to a family gathering or Potluck is better than before because the home made food is far superior and fresher than " store bought. " (Remember, we don't have preservatives in SCD convenience foods) I can also tell you that when Elaine was alive it was an ongoing struggle to make sure the " approved " SCD suppliers conformed to standards and did not advertise illegal foods. They did do that and it made Elaine very upset. There must be over one thousand SCD legal recipes on the Internet. Because legal ingredients are simple and wholesome, most of these recipes are so easy some of the children could make them. The real convenience lies in having a child that is healed. Carol F.
