Katy,

My son Colgan has cultured Staph twice as well both with in the

last 4 months. Each time he was given IV Fortaz and Tobra. The first

time he did not get rid of infections and we are going in on 1st of

October to have another swap done. My doc does not seem to concerned

about this at all. I am of course because it is my baby but I guess

that we all have to come to the reality that at one point or another

they are going to grow something. I say that kicking and screaming all

the way. I refuse to believe this but I guess I can refuse all I want

huh??? I know you are frusterated because they will not give her

something to get rid of it.

Colgans doc feels that only if they are having a flare up it is

nesesary to treat staph. Perhaps this is what your clinician feels as

well.

Love to you

Hi Katy,

My daughter 's cultures have always come back with staph aureus. They

only put her on antibiotics when she begins to cough alot. I don't think( and I

stress think) that it will ever go away completely. However, our Dr. told us

that children with staph generally tend to fair better.

Hope that helps,

e

Well, our CF clinic called today to let us know that they had the results back

on Piper's repeat culture. When she went for clinic in July she cultured Staph,

did 6 weeks of Bactrim to hopefully get rid of the Staph. Well when we went for

clinic last Thursday, they repeated the swab and once again she cultured Staph.

Now I know that it really isn't that big of a deal (it could be worse like

pseudomonas) but it concerns me that it is still there. And this time they

haven't even mentioned antibiotics or anything. Should she be on something? Or

am I just making this a bigger deal than it really is?

Any input is appreciated : )

This is what he told me. He said that a person will usually get psuedomonas by

the time they are ten. Some never get it, some get it later. However, those who

only have staph Aureus tend to fair better because there is less damage to the

lungs. Staph does not attack the lungs like pseudomonas does. Or so I am told

e,

Fair better meaning what. My son also cultures Staph a lot. I am

just currious what he means by that . Perhaps good news?

Oh ok I thought that perhaps you heard that this would off set another

bacteria from growing. Thank youfor your reply.

The pseudomomas bacteria scares the living day lights out of me.

I hope that it is a long time before we or any of these little ones get

this one.

Love to you

No - but its thought that if you have a pseudomonas you probably have staff

too - the PA is just dominant!
