Guest guest
Hi Katy, I have a 6 1/2 year old son wocf and a 4 year old daughter wocf and a 21 month old daughter with CF. My son and older daughter had their share of colds during the school/preschool year, and Hannah wcf was healthier than the two of them when they got sick. Of course, when the kids are sick I have them wash there hands often and not hang all over Hannah. If they want to kiss her when they are sick, I tell them to kiss her foot so as to not get her sick. It works out well. Hope this helps. Jenna

Guest guest
Jenna, Thanks, you helped a lot. I am just so paranoid about Piper getting sick. I know that it is inevitable, that she WILL get sick with her fair share of colds, etc... I'm just not ready to start that downward spiral yet. Thanks again! Guest guest
Hi, my daughter with CF started pre-k last year, she was healthier than the other kids in her class. She only missed one day and that was because of a g-tube site infection not anything lung related. They are very considerate of 's CF and hand washing at her school. The parents never send them in sick either. Public schools.... Hi all!! I have a question for all the experts out there. My son will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and I was wondering what the risk of him bringing something home to my daughter are. My daughter will turn 1 on July 12th. I am concerned that he could catch something and bring it home to her. I am seriously considering home-schooling. All of you that have a non CF kid, is this something that I really should be concerned about? I would really appreciate any input on this. Thanks, Katy mom to Austin 4 no CF & Piper almost 1 w/CF
Guest guest
Teach them good " wash their hands & don't touch everything in the room. Also when he gets home, you can have him be sure to " clean up " . maybe he changes clothes to play , whatever... But that might help a little. It will help him remain well too. Some feel very strongly about home school . It so good for many. My granddaughter had NO problems at all . In fact . got prefect attendance for several years .. She is now in college & is doing well. ....I do want to say ---all are different . hasn't had any lung involvement & is almost 19 years old......... You might want to try it first.... The school area, size, routines, etc.,yours will be attending , etc will have MUCH to do with it too. Public schools.... Hi all!! I have a question for all the experts out there. Guest guest
You can't live in a bubble. Enforce rigid HANDWASHING! Have everyone who enters you home wash their hands...put up a sign if you have to! That will decrease most cross contamination. Its tough since kids are literally on top of each other. Keep your kids from touching things...i.e. shopping cart, walls, etc. Rosemary in NY with 3 children (12, 10 and 6) with CF. Guest guest
The problem with home schooling I found was that my primary responsibility was for my daughter's health, not her education. I couldn't do both. I have to be the bad guy for her taking her meds and treatments, It just didn't work when I also had to be the bad guy for her education. We tried for about a year, and thank god she's a smart kid, cause she didn't learn a thing with me. Just my opinion. G mom of 14 w/cf bobby 7 and matty 10 no cf Public schools.... > Hi all!!
