It is receiving praise from respected quarters. I just object to having it declared the third official SCD book by a list member unless that is just to her personally. Here are studies that COULD be done. Some have been tried before but not under properly controlled conditions: SCD versus GFCF SCD eliminating high oxalate foods versus just SCD SCD with probiotics and enzymes versus just SCD SCD with selected additional treatment (eg chelation) against just SCD. SCD among casein tolerant using yogurt against SCD casein tolerant with no yogurt We could devise countless others but haven't the resources at this time. What studies would you all propose? Carol F. Guest guest
Hi Carol, My first comment would be... as for studies... Joe, my 4-year-old son will be going in to his pediatrician for updates on his digestive wellness. He previously had an abdominal x- ray around one year ago, which showed significant (moderate) build up of stool. Lactulose, which is an SCD illegal helped expunge that funk from his system. It gave us a jump start prior to starting SCD. I will be requesting not only an abdominal x-ray to see how his abdomen is now... but also, follow up referral to a gastroenterologist to do full studies to see what condition his gut is truly in. I want pictures... I want to SEE the results and healing... It makes healing more tangible and gives a bit more fact to go with a realm of unknown, especially since I can only base my son's healing thus far upon his behaviors and appearance... My thought is that perhaps the studies should include much more scientific/medical information instead of just parent testimonials. Quite frankly, some of the commentary here sounds cult-like and it counteracts the effectiveness SCD has as a viable option for healing. I strongly recommend the yogurt... a biologist recently told me, he finds it very difficult to believe that the casein in goat's milk is that far removed from the casein in cow's milk. Perhaps it is the lack of healing in these children that makes casein an issue, for my Joe, SCD approved Dairy is not an issue whatsoever in his diet. Before I digress, an updated study w/ medical logs on children w/ ASD after increments of time on SCD would be a healthy start. As well, a log of all therapy methods and extraneous dietary measures taken as well during that timeframe. Our Joe is in an ABA program, ABLC program, Sensory Diet (Out of Sync Kids is a great way to reach out), as well as SCD and a few miscellaneous dietary interventions and supplements along the way. It would be very difficult to remove other variables to do SCD on it's own. I think medical results would best reflect SCD's impact. Just my two cents' worth in a pinch... -Carol / Froggypeach Mother of 4, ages 14, 5-1/2, 4, and 2 years old. 4 yo son dx w/ regressive autism 10/2004, SCD 10/2005 > > > Here are studies that COULD be done. Some have been tried before but not under properly > controlled conditions: > > SCD versus GFCF > SCD eliminating high oxalate foods versus just SCD > SCD with probiotics and enzymes versus just SCD > SCD with selected additional treatment (eg chelation) against just SCD. > SCD among casein tolerant using yogurt against SCD casein tolerant with no yogurt > > We could devise countless others but haven't the resources at this time. > > What studies would you all propose? > > Carol F. >

What we did do was encourage parents to do a parents' report which asked for specific information and would then have collated it. I'll copy Mimi on this in case she is not reading the list at the moment and she will post her comments. I appreciate the very literate report on your child because it is so detailed and scientific. Your progress is inspiring! Your attention to important visible evidence too. Carol F.
