Guest guest
Hi Jai, I'm a pre-op for another two weeks. You have found a great doctor in DR. R. Have you read the guidelines to find out if you would qualify for the surgery? That is were I would start if I were you. If you fit the mold then I would fill out the patient info forms and e-mail them to DrR. You will want to know if your insurance will pay I would think before worrying about a PCP. Also DR.R is very back logged so you want them to know about you as soon as possible. I would think even if you don't have a long relationship with a doctor if you can find one to back you up it would fly. You may have already thought this out but I wanted to try and help. I f you have to appeal your insurance company it will give you time to establish a relationship with a Doc. Good Luck, I hope this is helpful. Guest guest
Hi Jai, My primary care physician recently retired after treating me for 15 years. I switched to a new PCP this spring, and after a couple of visits and a long talk about my health history, he read the MGB manual and agreed to support me in every way possible. He has been wonderful, he thinks this is a great surgery, and told me that he would do whatever I needed him to do so I could have it. I had my MGB on July 31, and he is really pleased with my weight loss and how I am feeling so far. He was amazed that my surgery only took 38 minutes and that I have such small scars from it. He thinks Dr. Rutledge is a great surgeon (and so do I!!). So... It can be done, as long as you find the right doctor to support you. Good luck! I have found another doctor but am afraid he does not know > enough about me to agree to the aftercare and follow-up. If anyone > has any suggestions, please contact me. Any suggestions would be > appreciated. > > Jai Dear Jai, I had a similar problem. I've only recently moved to this new area of NC, and needed to establish a relationship with a PCP. I found a good doctor in town, had a thorough physical and medical history, and we talked for a long time - over several visits, in fact - about the MGB. He reviewed the Patient Manual, all the materials that I was submitting to Dr. Rutledge, and then he took about three weeks to think about supporting me in this step. By the time he was ready to send his letter, we had literally been in contact for several - two - months! I believe that that is Dr. R.'s requirement, unless he's changed it in the new Patient Manual. Good for you for getting as much information about this procedure as possible. That's the right way to approach it. Good luck to you! Blair MGB 8/9/

Guest guest
Hello, Anne, and welcome. You're still a little bitty spring chicken, in regard to the surgery. I had lower advancement at age 56. As for having a baby, talk with your OB/GYN. Some folks postpone surgery for the sake of having the baby. Others do the surgery first, and then get cracking on the procreation... You're still young in the process, but if it takes you, say, three years to get ready (predictions are notoriously unreliable, although my sweet and skilled docs were right on the money), you may want to stay in braces or retainers longer and get on with the baby-making. It's not the simplest thing in the world to do both at once, but Shiloh, as you may know already, has managed. You say: I wonder if I look slightly > substandard at the moment. :-p Honey, all of us look slightly substandard, I think. Okay. Not all, but most. This is also about making your jaws work better, and having them serve you more effectively. You are beautiful, whatever your alignment, but if you have the opportunity to make things work better (as I did), Why not do the Carpe Diem?! > > Hi all - > > My name is Anne, I'm 28 (at least for a few more weeks), and am > slated to have jaw surgery this summer.
