I had a partial pancretectomy and I am now considering a full removal with the islet cell transplant. Has anyone done this before and had enough islet cells? Has your pain been relieved? Would you do it again? If I didn't have enough islet cells, would I become a brittle diabetic or any kind of diabetic? Would a transplant be a better option? Please kindly reply as my parents and I are trying to make a decision. This is the hardest decision because the first surgery failed. Thank-you, Hi , with a pancreas transplant you would have to take rejection drugs. I would discuss your pancreas problems with Dr. Sutherland. He will have the correct answers. He is a wonderful doctor and human being. He is so kind and very down to earth. He could easily tell you which surgery would be right for you. Sue and Gail had a Whipple surgery and it failed so then they opted for the pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant. They were left with pain but not pancreatitis pain. Some people who have had previous surgeries to their pancreas and then have the pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant develop pain. It is nothing like pancreatitis pain. I really don't know if you would develop pain if you had a pancreatectomy since you said that the tail of your pancreas was removed. That would be a good question for Dr. Sutherland.
