Hi All,

I'm sorry if this is a repeat question. I did do a search and was

slightly confused by the answers...

Are sodium lactate and lactic acid starter culture (not from dairy)

legal? If so, my kids will be very, very happy (and so will I -

fingers are crossed).

Also, I just spoke with Applegate Farms and they are in the process of

taking out almost all of the maple sugar and evaporated cane juice

that was formerly used in their products. This removal should be

complete within the next three months (according to a woman named

at Applegate). Yeah!

Thanks!

'Sodium lactate' is a legal ingredient.

'Lactic acid starter culture' may be legal, but they may not be. It

depends on what the cultures are. For example Lactobacillus

acidophilus is a legal culture, but Bifidum bacteria are not. Also is

this in a probiotic, a yogurt starter or in a food?

Thanks for the reply, Sheila. I will call Applgate tomorrow and find

out what kind of starter culture they use. Thanks so very much for

letting me know...

This led me to look at my daughters' probiotic and I'm worried that

it is all illegal. The ingredients are:

Lactobacillus acidophilus

Bifidobacterium bifidum

Bifidobacterium lactis

Fructooligosaccharides

Are all but the first ingredient illegal???

If so, have my last 12 days on SCD been ruined? Man, this is hard!

Corey,

Sorry.... but yes. All but the first one are illegal.

There IS a lot to learn.... and I know it seems overwhelming. But just

discontinue this illegal probiotic, find a legal one as soon as you can and keep

going. Everyone makes little mistakes in the beginning. It will be okay. These

12 days haven't been wasted. Chin up! :)
