yogurt too soon?

We have been doing SCD legal foods for a little over a month, but had

to restart about 2 weeks ago because we were just going too fast. This

time through, stool improved almost immediately. We are definitely able

to tell when he's not tolerating something (carrots and bananas so far)

because his stool goes mushy again. We held off on starting any yogurt

until yesterday and started with 1 tsp. in his ice cream with cows

yogurt. We were not casein free before starting the diet and he's

always had cows milk (although I have no idea if he was tolerating it

or not because he's always had mushy stool..) I just read advice to

someone else about having no yogurt for about 3 months. Have we started

too soon? If we should stop, should he be taking acidopholis (sp?)

instead?

Thanks!

Leah,

It's really only for those who have been CF before SCD that we recommend to hold

all dairy out for several months. If he was not having obvious reactions to it

before, I would put my money on continuing the yogurt because the potential

benefits of the healing properties it has to offer outweigh the risks in your

child's case, in my opinion.

Just keep going with a small amount.... and watch closely for any changes for

the next week or so.

What kind of ice cream?

If he is still doing well with 1 tsp of cow yogurt then forge ahead :)

Hi Sheila,

Good news. We gave him another spoon of yogurt (second day) in his evening

icecream and

today at 1pm he had an excellent stool! Yeah! I guess we're o.k. for now but

will keep a close eye. The ice cream we make is the egg white one. Can't

remember if this one was from pecanbread or not, but it has 6 egg whites

(beat 1st until stiff), 4 egg yolks, 1/4 c. oil, 1/4 c. honey. Put in the

ice cream mixer and that's it! We give it in small doses once a day and

he loves it:)
