Guest guest
How much did you start with, Kelli? Did he have zero reaction to the nut yogurt... and you're just seeing this since the goat? Hopefully, you started with just a spoonful. It definitely could have triggered some new die-off. I have not had this same experience, so I'll let someone else answer, too. I have to say, it has been a couple weeks since we started the nut yogurt and a week since we started the goat. My son has never been more aggressive, difficult, and out of it. Guest guest
Hi Kelli, This is a common symptom for a die off reaction. Are you seeing an increase in speech or other signs of improvement? How much yogurt are you giving him? The best amount is 1/8 of a teaspoon or less in the beginning. You have 2 choices: Stop the yogurt and retry in a couple of months. The reaction from the yogurt will then disappear after about 10 days. Or you may decrease the amount of yogurt.. Mimi > How much did you start with, Kelli? Guest guest
Dear Kelli, I was so thrilled to see that you are trying the yogurt! Die off is not fun, ours lasted almonst two weeks and then came back like Elaine warns 2 to 3 months later (we had a regression). It was not pleasant felt like the flu from h***. I say go for it!...use your activated charcoal and Epson Salts Baths and get through it. WE where completely amazed when we where done with the worse of it. We all felt better, acted better and slept better. Yet we jumped straight to a bowl full! Not what Pecan Bread suggests, but it did work. SCD Yogurt in any amount is good though! Kiki, like many already know was the most amazing. She never smiled, had poor eye contact, did not know how to play, had deleriums, mild seizures, night terrors and was just miserable. That first month of yogurt truly changed her. We may have introduced it faster than most. It was not easy going through the transisiton, but we are reaping the benifits. She now no longer has deleriums or seizures, no more night terrors either, is learning to talk, wants to talk, smiles, has imagination, has better eye contact and tantrums are down to a miminum. So much more....we are still healing and have a long ways to go though. This is going to be a fun year for all of us. Hang in there! Please, try not to let DIE OFF scare you away from the benifits of this wonderful SCD yogurt! It has that affect on some. Remember that THIS Transisition will soon be a thing of the past. Sincerely, Antoinette (celiac) and mother to Kiki (celiac/asd/pdd) SCD entire family of five 2/06/came to SCD GFCFSF/grain free

The yogurt should be introduced slowly, beginning with 1 TBL per day and gradually working up to 1-2 cups per day for a child. If the yogurt is introduced too quickly, there could be a significant die-off reaction. > It is suggested that yogurt be be increaed gradually and not a bowlful at a time. You may not have the same results that Antoinette did. The good thing about going easy is the tolerance can be gently increased without the immune system being overwhelmed. I would suggest you stick with the instructions above. Carol F. SCD 6 years

Guest guest
I am not seeing any positive gains from the yogurt except maybe in stool form. We are still at 1/2-1 teaspoon and started at 1/8 teaspoon. So it doesn't sound like a reaction to the dairy? I am very concerned about that because he really was doing so well before we tried it. Would die off last longer than 2 weeks and increase? We had die off at the beginning of the diet last year that lasted only 10 days and then only 3-4 days when we restarted the intro 3 months ago. ) KELLI Re: was: 1 week SCD and ???'s--now my question re:yogurt Hi Kelli, This is a common symptom for a die off reaction. Guest guest
Hi Kelli, I would suggest taking him off the goat yogurt for now (10-14 days at least). If you decide to try either the nut yogurt or the goat yogurt again you could try 1. dripping the yogurt (to remove some of the galactose etc. which some people react - if you didn't do the dripping already; and 2. going very low and slow in increasing the amount of the yogurt. Such as 1/8 of a teaspoon every 2nd or 3rd day for a week or two and then 1/4 tsp every 2nd or 3rd day for the next week or two. Basically don't treat it like a food but that a medicine that the body has to gradually adapt to. The yogurt is very good but very strong and can be very overwhelming for some people. I think it is a good sign that his stool was better formed with the yogurt.Did you get the better stool formation with the nut yogurt or was it only after adding the goat yogurt?
