Guest guest
Hi Glenda, I'm Randy, the Vest guy. The best thing to do is to visit our website at www.thevest.com. Most Medicaid programs pay for the Vest, depending what state you are in. However, it doesn't matter if the insurance covers it or not. If your granddaughter's MD feels she needs the Vest, she will get it. Period. If you would like your local Vest person to contact you and give you more info, let me know where you live and I can have them contact you by e-mail (with your permission, of course). I hope this helps! The vest guy How can we find out info about the vest? Grandaughter is only about 24 lbs. 2yr.old. Does medicaid pay for the vest? I heard it is very expensive. Thanks- Glenda gmom to Jasmine
Guest guest
This may have been already said, but how old or big does a child need to be before getting vest. Ashauna mom to Colgan 7 months. I know he would not need it yet but for future.
Guest guest
Hi, Ashauna--Cody got it when he was 3, but many have gotten it at 1-1/2 to 2 years old. The vest can be adjusted to fit, so it just needs to be able to fit him comfortably. If I'm remembering correctly, a chest circumference of about 20 inches is necessary--at least that's what we were told. BUT, I swear Cody was NOT that big--he's barely more than that now, and he's 7-1/2! S., mom to Cody (7, pwcf, nissen for severe reflux, malnutrition, ADHD), DJ (9, nocf, asthma, ADD), and a (14, nocf, ADHD) RE: The vest guy > This may have been already said, but how old or big does a child need to > be before getting vest. > > Ashauna mom to Colgan 7 months. Guest guest
It is more based on chest circumference vs. age. The chest should ideally be between 21 - 23 " (which usually correlates with a child about 2 years old); however, we have put it on a child with a chest circumference as small as 17 " . Guest guest
our daughter received her vest when she was 2 years old. it depends on the circumference of your child's stomach. if i remember right it has to be at least 21 inches. hope this helps. p.s. the vest is a life saver!! Guest guest
Thanks , Well I got some bad news about Colgan today. Not positive but somedays even a maybe is hard to deal with. His GI doc is thinking that me may have a stricture some where in his intestinal tract. I am waiting on a scheduled time to have GI work up done. This is good because they are at least trying to figure out what is going on but bad because if he does it could possibly mean another surgery. Also his main doc thinks that he may be having a flare up of this staph bact. again. They sent me home for tonight and tomorrow to see if maybe it is just allergies to something and put him on Rhinocort Aqua. Has anyone heard of this. As far as I understand it is for adults and kids older than 6 years but Colgan has such congestion problems we are kindof at a stand still in what to give him that will help because he is so young. WOW I think that was the biggest run on sentence that I have ever written. HAHAHAHa I am trying to stay positive and upbeat. Some times it seems like we get through one thing and start feeling good about the way things are going and then all of the sudden things start going wrong. UGH!!!!!!!! Up until this last Thursday Colgan was feeling really well. Now if he does not clear up any tomorrow we have to be admitted again to hos. I am sorry to vent to you really if anyone has advice that I could try let me know. Ashauna mom to Colgan possible admission tomorrow

Guest guest
Ashauna, Have you tried any vapor rub on his chest? I know it is an old fashioned remedy but & makes a baby one that really opens up. They also make a vapor bath. Sometimes those old fashioned remedies work or at least help in the short term. I hope he doesn't have to go back in. Re: The vest guy Thanks , Well I got some bad news about Colgan today. Not positive but somedays even a maybe is hard to deal with. Guest guest
Obviously I am somewhat biased...however, I am an RN. And they way I became interested in the Vest was because of the dramatic results I saw in my patients. I worked in home health for many years and many of the pediatric patients that we took care of used hand held percussors and others airway clearance devices with some success. When we started introducing the Vest to our patients, the results were significant. I was pretty much sold from that point on and I encouraged my physicians to try the Vest on their patients. My advice would be to talk to as many parents and care givers as possible so that you can decide confidently if the Vest is right for your child. I hope this helps! Guest guest
Nope I have not tried this but I am willing to do anything. I also have another question for you. Have you used Skandishakes before. They are going to try them on Colgan. I am a little leary because he just does not seem old enough for this. Guest guest
Some people really love the scandishakes but absolutely hates them. I tried putting some in pudding (recipe I got from someone on here- I think) usually loves pudding but not with the scandishake- she told me it tastes funny. I tasted it in the pudding out of curiosity and she was right that stuff has a funny flavor to it. Maybe Colgan will like it since he doesn't know any better! They are loaded with the stuff these kids need so, if CF clinic is thinking of adding it you might as well try it. I wonder are they planning to add it to his formula? or whole milk. He is a bit young for milk......... is he on pregestamil still? Re: The vest guy Nope I have not tried this but I am willing to do anything. I also have another question for you.
