Join the OlderPlagio group. They'll be able to answer your question better than most of us here who decided to go for a band/helmet. I will tell you though that most if not all people on that group regret not banding when banding was an option...

My son has mild-moderate plagiocephaly, and we're really on the fence as to what we should do. I'd love to hear from people who chose not to get a helmet, and what their experience has been.Thanks!
