Guest guest
My little girl, Reagan, has been in her DOC band since Monday. She's slept through the night for the past two nights and doesn't really seem to be too bothered by her helmet. Is it normal for it to shift a bit? I feel like it moves down close to one of her eyes and pushes on her ear a little bit. Again, it doesn't seem to bother her, but it drives me nuts. Anyone else? Also, how do you, as a parent, adjust to not being able to kiss her forehead or even see her eyes when she's sitting on the floor? And how many of you have been head-butted?! That's a fun one! She's been great and seems to be her normal happy self, but I'm a normal worried parent. Help to put my mind at ease!! Mindi
Guest guest
Hi there- Glad to hear she's adjusting so well to the band, my son was the same way and it made things so much easier. It is perfectly normal for there to be a bit of shifting at first, especially within the first week, because CT likes to wait a week before making any major adjustments (if any) to the band. I was specifially told by our therapist that it was going to be low in his eyes at first and that it would bother me, but to avoid tugging and adjusting it because it would only annoy my son (I still did it a few times!). As the head grows, it will tighten and lift a little too, so for now, I would just wait until your first follow up appointment and just ask them about it then. You really get used to the band, It seemed really normal to me after only about a week. And my son wore his bands for over 7 months, so it was actually an adjustment again when he was NOT wearing it anymore. I was/am more of a cheek kisser, so I always had access to those, and I learned quickly to duck/move out of the way when I saw his head coming toward me! It gets easier, I promise! Good luck! Guest guest
I got lip stickers (since it is around Valentines they are avaliable now) and put a couple on his helmet. I miss kissing his head so much.I am getting use to it now but I hate not being able to see his face when he sits on my lap. I feel that I take full advantage of the hour he has with out the helmet on-it seems like such a treat to get to see all of him. You take it for granted before. I am sure it will only get easier. GOOD LUCK:)
Guest guest
Thank you all for your kind words and encouragment. It's rough because she's started physical therapy this week for her torticollis and hated every second of it. Not to mention she's teething right now too. Poor kid. I know she's resilient and she's been a trooper. It's definitely mom who is having a harder time!! > > I got lip stickers (since it is around Valentines they are avaliable > now) and put a couple on his helmet. Guest guest
Briar attended PT from when he was 3 months old and went weekly. He is now 9 months old and is almost done (only a couple more sessions). She will get use to going, Briar use to hate it(to the point that if he heard his PTs voice, he would start crying) and would scream the whole time. He now actually smiles and laughs when he goes. Just give it some time, it will get better. It is putting them in positions that they do not want to be in so they will cry. Also keep up on the streches at home it will make her use to it:) > > > > I got lip stickers (since it is around Valentines they are avaliable > > now) and put a couple on his helmet.
