Guest guest
Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I have probably one last question to pose to you guys. I saw my GI yesterday for an unplanned follow-up as a result of my last ERCP (I am still feeling poorly from it). He told me then that he made a mistake and that I don't have a pancreas problem after all and that it was inappropriate for him to treat me with the stents and that he is concerned that he may have caused the problem that he was expecting to " cure " . He came across to me as accusing me of tricking him into thinking I was sick and that he was fooled into giving me expensive, risky treatment (think munchausan syndrome). Unless he was not honest with my husband at the time of my diagnostic ERCP in September, I am completely baffled as to his behavior and how I should respond to it. I have canceled all follow-up appointments with him but am wondering if there is something more I should do? At my original ERCP he determined that I have pancreas divisum with a stenotic minor papilla that was as tight as he has ever seen. At the second ERCP, he told my husband that he was very encouraged that the stent was working and that things were going as expected, at the third stent, he said that they were not working and that he elected to not go on with the treatment, then yesterday he said that I really don't have a pancreas problem at all....... Can anyone help me understand this??????? Please???????? Laurie

I think the only way to understand what is happening is to bring all of the ERCP films and see another gastroenterologist. The ERCP films will show in black and white if you have pancreas divisum, the condition and size of the pancreatic structures, whether or not stents are in place, etc. The only guess I have is that someone else's (with normal pancreas anatomy) medical records were mistakenly (and unnoticed) inserted into your file after the second ERCP. (This actually happened to me - During an office visit, the doctor aked me when I had developed Parkinson's. This was news to me as well as the doctor. The doc & I were both puzzled & then noticed that a name other than mine was in a corner of the page.) Get a copy of the operative reports from where the ERCPs were done & a copy of the doctor's office records. I'm sure the office will not want to give you the copy, but be forceful. You may be able to figure out what is happening just by comparing the medical records. Good luck with your detective work, jang
