Guest guest
My son Zach gets monthly synagis shots to prevent RSV for the last two winters. These shots are designed for babies only, but if your baby is having lung problems it might be worth asking your doctor about. Guest guest
MY grand daughter took shots during flu season to reduce the odds of her catching RSV. She took one shot a month for seven months. They were expensive, $3,000 per shot. Guest guest
RSV is a bad resp. virus that is normally only risky to preemies and some newborns. It typically causes bad colds in older kids. It was while had RSV that he was diagnosed. In some kids with CF, it is really bad news, but really when they are younger USUALLY. Mallory was about 13 and 15 months when she had her severe bouts with RSV. The second time she ended up in PICU in resp. failure. Thefirst time,s he was hospitalized for almost 3 weeks, had to be bronched to get off o2, then ultimately caught rotavirus from the hospital (came home with it apparently, as the symptoms developed like 2 hours after she got home. During that bronch, she cultured Maltophilia, but not sure if she also cultured pseudo at that point or not, to be honest. For us, RSV was a nightmare. AFter that, till she was almost 4, she got synagis every year during synagis season here. (I think usually oct til april, here...but sometimes it changes and they change the schedule...) Synagis is supposed to prevent, or make it milder at least. AFter synagis, she did not get it again, thankfully.....synagis shots have to be given monthly, and in the older kids it is two or more shots each month, though, and VERY costly so your insurance co. m ight fight you. we finally stopped right before she was 4. ph also got synagis for his first 2 years of life, through that second season, too. I hope this hslps some. WE blame the two bouts with RSV for many of mallory's problems. why else would she be so much sicker than the boys? Anyway, I do suspect that if they got it now, even Mallory, it would not cause quite as m any probs. take care, Jen Mommy of 7 ages 4-11, 3 with CF, one with JD > Can anyone tell me what RSV is.
