Guest guest
I was thinking that when we use recipes with cheese, we could use the enzymes, as he now tolerates ice cream and cheeses fine WITH enyzmes. So, could we start sooner with the goat's milk/cheese recipes if we used enzymes?
Guest guest
Yes, you can certainly start all SCD legal dairy products from the beginning of the diet, if your child was already tolerating them before. Using enzymes is fine. Be sure your is on the legal list. Patti Enzymes w/ SCD ok? I was thinking that when we use recipes with cheese, we could use the enzymes, as he now tolerates ice cream and cheeses fine WITH enyzmes. So, could we start sooner with the goat's milk/cheese recipes if we used enzymes? For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com

No point in rushing things in my opinion. Hopefully as healing progresses you may even be able to decrease or eliminate enzymes. Please stick with the suggested timetable for starting yogurt for best results. > > Carol F. I think you should TAKE PATTI'S ADVICE. My concern was that when things are introduced gradually it is easier to isolate any food that seems troublesome. Carol F. Guest guest
Ok, thanks. Even though you and Patti are conflicting, I will go with your advice - just makes more sense not to rush. I guess the other advantage is that we can hold off on these enzymes, which are incredibly expensive, and which we go through like crazy on a regular diet. > > > I was thinking that when we use recipes with cheese, we could use the > > enzymes, as he now tolerates ice cream and cheeses fine WITH enyzmes. > > So, could we start sooner with the goat's milk/cheese recipes if we > > used enzymes? > > No point in rushing things in my opinion. Guest guest
LOL, we must have crossed posts. I think I might go slow, again, just to wean off of the enzymes. (and financially wean off of them as well - $50 per order is getting a bit steep). Perhaps we'll introduce cheese and yogurt a little sooner than normal - I don't know. I'll see how he's doing. I mean, I can give a Houston enzyme, 2 of the Zyme Prime and 2 of the PPV and he will tolerate ice cream and/or cheese and/or just about anything - we THINK. I mean, he still is showing autistic symptoms, so whose to say he is totally tolerating anythng. His poops have been looking really good on these enzymes, but still the stimming, the spinnng around, the switching of the pronouns, scripting, etc. My son has had a lot of ABA. I think he has overcome a lot - but we still see huge tantrums at times, when he is stressed, and scripting, and stuff like that. He is PDD-NOS, almost 5 years, and I just want to clear him up really well before he starts kindergarten. We will go SLOW. I guess i felt cheese would be the thing to help my rest of the family adapt to this well, but we can work around it. > > > > I was thinking that when we use recipes with cheese, we could use the > > enzymes, as he now tolerates ice cream and cheeses fine WITH enyzmes. > > So, could we start sooner with the goat's milk/cheese recipes if we > > used enzymes? > > > > , > I advised you to go slow with introducing goat yogurt and Patti feels it's OK to introduce it > now because of your history. > > I think you should TAKE PATTI'S ADVICE. > > My concern was that when things are introduced gradually it is easier to isolate any food > that seems troublesome. > > Carol F. >

There was little or no mention of enzymes in the BTVC outline of the diet. Because absorption can be poor before the gut is healed, many DAN doctors suggest the supplementation. One cannot be positive even these are well absorbed but certainly hope so and a lot of parents testify to improvement using enzymes. It is vital to consult the list on Pecanbread and go with the legal ones. However, there is an exception. Elaine has said if a medication is essential use it even if not legal. I didn't know about enzymes when I started the diet and was taking illegal items from a naturopath shortly after starting the diet. Once I became aware I stopped them and have been fortunate in being able to do SCD without many additions. This is not the case for everyone. > Carol F.
