Guest guest
My son complained - he said he felt like there were snakes in their. The Dr. said he has GERD.. Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 10.6 and 6.6) with CF. I have a dog named TOBI and have coined the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT "
Guest guest
The painful lungs happened to my son when he was about 11 or 12, though he described it as a painful chest. He was also lethargic and not feeling well - I think because of dehydration at the time. We had x-rays done and they didn't show anything significant ... the radiologist thought there was a possible small spot of pneumonia but had not seen any of my son's other x-rays. Later, when the CF doc compared them to a previous set, there was nothing different. At any rate, he was given an additional antibiotic and was better in a few days. I hope Kristy's recovery will be as quick. M
Guest guest
Barbara, I'm glad she had the x-ray to rule out anything bad such as massive infection or pneumothorax. I'm wondering if it's pleuisy? I had that about five months after was born. It hurts like (ummm, is this a G rated list?). Well, suffice it to say, " It hurts! " My lungs felt raw, I couldn't inhale or exhale deeply because lungs felt like sandpaper scraping my ribs -- and I had a very uncomfortable cramp on one side. I held myself very carefully to prevent sudden movement, and walked slowly so I wouldn't have to breathe deeply. I'd sit and rock at night with tears streaming down my face from the pain. Finally after two days (yes, how slow AM I?) I went to the doctor. He took x-rays to rule out pneumonia or blood clot in the lung (can happen after childbirth). He diagnosed pleurisy and I thought he was nuts. I pictured some Granny standing over her barefootted grandkids waving a spoonful of cod liver oil saying, " I told you not to play in the rain. Now look, you've gone and gotten that there pleurisy again! " Anyway, he prescribed bed rest, drinking LOTS of water to hydrate the lungs, and over-the-counter pain relievers. Warm compresses also helped a lot. An antibiotic wasn't needed in my situation. But if Kristy continues trying to hold back coughing she could set herself up for a secondary infection, and then she will need an antibiotic. There are several spices that are good for inflammation, such as cinnamon and ginger. Perhaps adding these in teas and warm cereals right now will feel soothing. Turmeric also has good anti-inflammatory properties, could you do a curry for dinner? Lavender essential oil is soothing and has anti-inflammatory properties. What about adding a few drops to her bath water -- along with some eucalyptus to help open up breathing -- or mix some of these oils in a carrier oil (such as mineral oil, almond oil, etc.) and rub her chest and back. I hope she feels well soon, and I'm crossing fingers the radiologist doesn't find anything worse than pleurisy. Guest guest
Barbara, Aren't the viruses going around wonderful at the moment. We actually had stuff faxed to work from the health commission about various viruses in our state. Did you go to the Gawler Show? Are you going to the Royal Show? We are hoping to on Wednesday, depending on the weather. , your neighbour!!!! " Mum my lungs hurt " Kristy came home from school yesterday complaining that her lungs hurt when she laughed, coughed etc. She is developing a mild cough, which I think she's holding back because it hurts. She has never had pain in her lungs before! There have been so many viruses etc going round school I think it's a miracle we've been lucky to date! Today after talking to her specialist, we've visited our local doctor and had chest xrays done....apparently they don't show anything 'raging' and the doctor commented on how well she did look. The xrays are being forwarded onto the specialist. The doctor suggested I give her panadol or panadeine (couldn't believe that one!) until her check up on Monday at the CF clinic and come back if she becomes very unwell. Have antibiotics on hand to start if the cough becomes more productive. Just interested to know if anyone else has children who experience 'painful lungs'? Guest guest
Hi The viruses are shocking atm aren't they! I had Nicky home all last week with a respiratory virus that set off her asthma, but she is doing ok now. I am so glad (fingers crossed) the 'Footballers virus' hasn't struck us yet, it's going around the High School. We didn't go to the Gawler show but are hoping to go to the Adelaide one on Sunday. Our plans are to stay in Adelaide overnight then go to CF clinic appt on Monday. Lucky Greg has the day off Monday This year Kristy has been the healthiest in the family. This is only the second course of antibiotics this year, a miracle after previous years. She said the pain in her lungs is much less today, so I am hoping whatever it was is passing and the antibiotics nip anything else brewing. Will feel much better after Clinic on Monday. It was disappointing that the normal GP we saw was away on Wednesday and so was the Dr we use as a backup.....The Dr we did see was extremely nice but after our past experiences I am very distrusting and get rather tired of having to explain the history of why she was diagnosed so late, still I guess perhaps it may help another patient one day! > Barbara, > > Aren't the viruses going around wonderful at the moment. Guest guest
LOL then I will be the only one safe from the Footballers virus, being the only Power supporter in the house! Great news about Eilish doing so well too! I hope you all enjoy your weekend full of activities. My girls want to see Nemo too. I even 'suffered' Maccas for lunch today to help them collect the Nemo toys, lol! Still very young at heart my girls! Yes we're off to clinic Monday, was over the moon last time when the Doctor said " see you in 3 months " You must be getting excited about the trip now, you're going to the Gold Coast aren't you? > Barbara, > > You'd only get the footballer virus if your silly enough to follow the > Crows LoL!!!
