Hi Annie-

Is the bulge between his ear and the opening? I've heard of bulges

above and behind the ears just being from swollen lymphnodes (sp?)

and apparently that is normal. Moms who have posted about it say

they disappear once the band comes off. Or does it definitely look

like the head is growing to the open shape of the ear hole? I've

also seen pictures of StarBands with pieces of added foam/padding in

areas that needed it, so maybe the ortho can add a piece of

something around the ear hole? I think it's definitely worth asking

about. Please let us know what they say.

Good luck!

We had the same issue with our son. We told our orthotist and he

took some foam material (similar to what's used in the spacer)and

glued pieces around the ear cutout. It's worked and the bump is

gone.

My daught has the same problem around her ears.I can really feel the

bulge by my finger.I want to know what is the bulge? Is it cranial

bone? Will it dissappear? And how? Please post us if you have found the

answer.

I am new here and have not posted before. My son got Starband two weeks ago for his brachi. He had same thing above his left ear. His band was getting tight, so we had it adjusted yesterday. Our OT took some foam out and bump was almost gone a few hours later.

I also wanted to say that this is a great place. I was reading post for few weeks . I had mixed feelings about banding since our peds was saying that it will correct it self.

As I was reading I realized that we did make right decision.

He had his band for two weeks and we can notice difference already.

When I mentioned it to the orthotist he said it was always there, I jsut didn't notice it when the band covered more of that area. He showed me the original scan - I kind of saw it - not 100% though.

The orthotist always has an instant answer for everything - is not much of a listener. He is definitely 'always right' so it can be a bit tough. Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
