Guest guest
Sharyn, when I was coming down off pred I usedto go bright red not just my face but my chest too. I found comingdown more slowly, and staying at one level longer helped. I also take my daily dose split, (half am half pm) although some doctors don't like this. I find otherwise I don't get any benefit at night, which is often the worst time. I do get a lot of back pain, I know nearly all my discs are bulging, and one or two are herniated. The 5 mg pred I still take helps a lot with that. I also take celebrex when its really bad, my rheumy says that is ok and it does work. (I too think it is rp related, but docs mostly don't, but discs are cartilage, arn't they?) I also find doing my exercises (pelvic tilts, small crunches, stomach and back muscle strengthening and recumbent bike 20 mins per day all help. You should talk gto a doc or physical therapist to get a program for this, though. Feel better!! Love Liz __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Liz, You are sooooooo right about exercising the abdomen with stomach crunches and doing pelvic tilts. Seems like when I strenghthen the front side, I reduce the stress on my back. I visited an area hospital that had a rehab center (cardio/pulmonary) and the exercise physiologist gave me copies of the specific exercises to get started with...free. Are you back from overseas? I really enjoy reading the emails about your travels. Please tell us more. Guest guest
Hi Liz I've been having those hot flashes of the face, ears and neck for some time now. They seem to come and go and my skin on my face gets hot like I'm running a fever. I've also been on Celebrex, but it really didn't do me any good. I have Fibromyalgia so bad it just wasn't helping. My Rheumy has me on this drug called Neurontin 300mg three times a day. He said they are finding it helps with the FM which I will admit it does. It a drug used on people who have epilepsy and seizures. I also have Osteoarthritis in my right hip...it's now bone on bone so the bike thing is out. Had PT too, but they did more harm than good and my insurance only pays for 5 visits. I still try and hobble around, but if I do to much I really pay for it. Shoot, I took my kids (dogs) out in the back yard yesterday and washed all of them. Then I took the clippers to two of them and by the time I was done I could hardly walk. Really gets frustrating when I cannot do things. Even sweeping the kitchen floor or vaccuming the house does a number on me. I'm a real mess aren't I Still I keep going since I don't want to be in a wheelchair, but my Rheumy did tell me I need a hip replacement. Am trying to hold out as long as I can with that one since I'm just to darn young right now for that. My muscles are very week. God forbid if I am down on the floor. Poor hubby has to come and help me get up. He's a dear. Sharyn > Sharyn, when I was coming down off pred I usedto go > bright red not just my face but my chest too. Guest guest
Shryn, aren't husbands wonderful? All I do around the house is the laundry (and that takes a toll too, but I'm not going to stop doing everything!). My poor honey, does everything else, occasionally I am allowed to dust! I know how frustrating it gets, believe me! I too have osteo (head to toe) and sometimes it's just too painful to do much. It really makes me crazy when my elbows act up, do you realize how little you can do without bending your arm? Makes me nuts! (Not that it's all that hard to do!). I'm grateful for each morning (more so BEFORE I get out of bed), usually laying in bed is sometimes the only place that doesn't hurt, but I'd rather be walking no matter how hard it is. Hang in there, I'd like to tell you that it will get better, but who knows if it will? Just take it one day at a time and hang in there!
