Guest guest
Angie: If you haven't already tried it, try Aveeno lotion. I don't know if its " legal " since its made from oatmeal, but its topically applied, not ingested, so maybe its okay. When I had poison ivy years ago, it was so awful and I couldn't stop it from spreading either. My legs looked like eggplants, they were so purple it was scary. I could only wear medical scrubs 24/7 as they were very light yet gave coverage. I had tried everything, including injections. Then in desperation, someone told me to try the Aveeno lotion (they have baths too, but I only did the lotion). It was instant relief! I was amazed. I bet they even have it in nowhere Virginia! If you go for an illegal med, I had to give my son, Clay, children's benydryl once at the direction of our DAN and I had to get the no-dyes version. He had no negative reaction to this medicine, but only took one dose. I don't know if there's an adult's no dye version or, if not, whether you can convert the children's version to an adult dose by taking more of it. Just a thought. But try the Aveeno lotion. Hope this helps. Tracey gus17mom wrote: Nope---we're in the middle of nowhere Virginia. Angie > > > Also, Gus and I both have poison ivy. His just keeps spreading. Guest guest
guys, just a note to be careful about topical antihistamines and steroids. they can mask an ongoing or worsening reaction. must be very careful if decides to use. other topicals for comfort are okay if not allergic to those. good luck, maria -- , mom to Fiol 19 mo, all family on SCD 1/
Guest guest
I've had doctor friends tell me (previously) that topical benadryl is useless. ?? Guest guest
" I've had doctor friends tell me (previously) that topical benadryl is useless. " I started using a Benadryl pen on my mosquito/spider bites and it has made a big difference for me. (I'm allergic to both types of bites.) I had been taking oral benadryl which helped with the itching some, but putting it directly on the bites prevented the whelting and " infected " look that I get from the bites. I put it on right after the bites a few days ago and they didn't whelt and they have healed without scarring. Maybe it works for some things and not for others. Who knows. Guest guest
You had also asked about which illegal medication contained the fewest illegal ingredients. This is what is in the dye-free Benadryl gel caps. Gelatin, glycerin, polyethylene glycol 400, and sorbitol. Softgels are imprinted with edible dye-free ink. It contains the fewest ingredients of anything I could find. Perhaps there is something else. Getting it compounded would of course be the best choice, but best may not always be possible and Elaine always said to use whatever was needed to treat a medical problem that required medication. We can only do our very best. Not everything has a legal form. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Hi Angie, > I've had doctor friends tell me (previously) that topical benadryl is > useless. ?? I've used it for my daughter's mosquito bites (they normally swell up quite large) and find it reduces the swelling completely and takes out the itch. Since she will scratch them in her sleep until they bleed - I really like the benadryl (I really like it if everyone can sleep through the night). Even though I am chemically sensitive those new " no bite' things work for me. Carol F. Celiac, MCS, Latex Allergy, EMS SCD 6 years
