You're going to make me cry! I seriously was in your same position

last January, I think I cried for a week straight. And the moment

they put the band on my son, I seriously felt like a tremendous

weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I hope the same happens for

you!

DOC and STARBands work on the same principles (pressure or holding

areas keep the prominent areas of the head from growing outward,

while open areas allow the flat spots to grow out) but are made by

different companies. I have to say that I chose Cranial Tech and the

DOCBand because of the number of " older " babies they treat

(nationally, something between 40-60 at our location). I actually

drove almost 3 hours each way to go to the Charlotte location. The

local STARBand option I had here in Raleigh only say a handful of

babies over the age of one each year. So for me I had to go with the

one I felt the most confidence in. The one issue I had to get over

was the idea that the DOCBand only lasts for a max of 4 months,

while the StarBand lasts for 6. Conversely, the DOCBand is used to

treat babies up to 24 months of age, while the STAR is only up to 18

months. I decided that CT was the better choice, so I'm really happy

with the decision.

Where are you located? Do you have a CT near you? If you have more

than one option to choose from, it would be beneficial to see both

places for a free eval (I know CT does them, and most other orthos

do as well). Ask them how many older babies they treat, ask for

before and after photos of older babies if they have them (I know CT

does), and ask them how long she will be guaranteed to wear the band

(the local place here couldn't guarantee that my son would wear it

past 18 months of age, basically they would let him wear it for a

month and if they didn't see any great results, they would recommend

discontinuing treatment. I didn't want to hear that! I wanted to

know that he would wear it for the maximum amount of time and get

the most out of it that we could. CT guaranteed me that. And I'm

really glad we got that chance, because although we did see some

minor improvements within the very first week, the most dramatic

improvement to his forehead didn't occur until late into the 2nd

month, early 3rd. If we had gone with the StarBand, we may have

never gotten that far).

Hope that helps! Please feel free to ask me any further questions!
