I'm sort of lost. When coming from out of town where do ya stay for the 8

days. Is there a nice motel close by. with suites so you can warm up the

" soup " (clear liquids) and all that is needed? Another thing that I would

like to know is........When you live out of state as a lot of us do, what

kind of consultations do you have before the surgery.

Were you well informed? Scared? <grin> I would appreciate any information

on this subject that I could get. >>

hi, Roxanne:

Durham is a pretty big town, and they have a lot of the hotel chains that you

probably know from other trips you've taken - Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, etc.

There are some other ones in Durham - Duke Tower, Fairfield Inn, and

ExtendedStay America - that I believe offer suites with kitchenettes. Most

offer special rates to people having surgery, since Durham is known as the

" City of Medicine " .

I'm not sure what you mean by " consultations " - but I met with an internist,

a radiologist, and an OB/GYN before sending in my packet to Dr. Rutledge.

Dr. Rutledge wants to make sure that he knows of any potential health risks

before he operates on you. A good example: I was supposed to have had this

surgery on 7/24, but I was turned away because of a suspected latex allergy,

which can have serious consequences during surgery. I came home, got

confirmation of the latex allergy, and I'm rescheduled for 8/9.

I spent a lot of time on this list, emailing and reading other people's

questions. You are REQUIRED to be well-informed before having this surgery.

That's why you have to write that huge letter that goes into your packet!

This surgery is a big, life-changing step. You'll want to read up and ask

questions as much as possible. If you read something that doesn't make

sense, or causes concern to you, ASK!!! That's why we're all here, to support

one another. We've all been searching for an answer to the obesity problem

for so long. This is a great solution, but it takes a lot of work, before

and after surgery.

Please keep asking questions and contacting people you find on this list.

Welcome! Good luck.
