Dear play violins

Hope you'll learn from my mistakes. Keep breastfeeding and eliminate

foods from your diet that irritate your baby via breast milk. I used to

drink a lot of milk and did while breastfeeding. The breast feeding had

its problems like you describe but nothing like after when we went to

formula. My three year old kid is very allergic to milk and about 10

other things. I have started him on scd and it is helping. We started

perhaps a month ago.

I did not know that breast milk could irritate the baby if baby was

allergic to foods mother is eating. You are very fortunate to have

figured this out. I can't answer your questions but I wish I had known

what you know. Keep bf. Eliminate foods that he is irritated by. Hope

t his helps. I think it might be bad manners to give such direct

feedback or advice.

bf infant w/ multiple allergies, mom w/ questions

Hi,

I have a six month old baby boy that has been miserable. He was

born early and put on a vent and IV antibiotics. He is strictly

breast fed still at this point. He has reflux and seems to have

multiple food sensitivities (to things I'm eating).

If I eat anything other than turkey, chk, brown rice and sweet

potatoes I have a very fussy baby on my hands whose skin breaks out

and he has blood and mucus in his diapers. As long as I'm just

eating those four foods he is much more cheerful, his skin clears up

and he'll have no blood in his diapers but I haven't been able to

totally get rid of the mucus.

I have found references to the SCD diet helping heal a leaky gut

that leads to multiple food allergies but these are very scanty

(even in Elaines book) and seem unconclusive. Is there anyone here

that has had experience with this they can tell me about? I am

pretty desperate as I can't keep eating just this (SCD sounds good

in comparison)but any attempts to add back in other foods have made

him miserable. I don't want to damage his digestive tract any more.

I also have two older kids with chronic constipation and attention

problems that I'm wondering if this diet would help as well. My six

year old has developed terrible behavior and trouble sleeping (she

gets scared and can't sleep) within the last year and I'm wondering

if it could have to do with the status of her gut.

Here are my questions:

In BTVC lack of diareah is used as the signal for when you can add

new foods. For kids who are constipated, is it when their

constipation clears?
